We moved to the big boy bed..and Im losing my mind

and so far No luck Chat Icon

This is by far the hardest thing ever in my life...getting him to sleep.

I KNOW we created bad habits, breaking them are impossible.

I have tried it all...you all have read my posts ...its just seemingly impossible. I need SUPERNANNY!

So he is flat our refusing to sleep in the crib any longer and since he was afarid of the crib tent, we bit the bullet and converted the crib to a day bed with a large bed rail ( he cannot actually get out, it is so long) and he so far is afarid to climb over it.

Well he made a huge deal of it...he went in willingly and then flipped the hell out...BAD. Trying to make himself choke, throw up. all sorts of drama. Meanwhile me and DH sat ther eon his floor, reassuring him etc. After two hours, we said between his runny nose and teething, this is not fair and ONCE AGAIN....gave in....

Im so stressed and anxious all day about bedtime.

There HAS TO BE a solution. There just HAS TO BE! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks for letting me vent.

Re: We moved to the big boy bed..and Im losing my mind

when you said you "gave in" what does that mean? It sounds so tough but I think you are doing all you can right now, the only other thing I can think of is let him cry, freak out, etc....REALLY let him CIO

I know how hard it is and I could not do it, but if you can, I think that would work Chat Icon

Re: We moved to the big boy bed..and Im losing my mind

We went through this when Derek was about 14 months old....he had been sleeping in our bed for a few months, and I said that we needed to do something because the baby was coming....

So we brought his bed into our room...at least it got him to sleep in his crib, and eventually, he made it back into his room....

How is he doing with naps? I know during this time it was sooo hard to get Derek to nap..I had to lay down with him...everything was torture...

Once he started sleeping in his crib, he slept great for naps, and he was soooo much happier (he was really happy when he was in our bed, so I didn't even realize it was affecting him, until I saw him even happier after)

we have gone as long as 7 hours of straight crying...he can really mantain Chat Icon

The problem is he cries hysterical..and does thinsg to hurt himself etc.

Im not comfortable with more then say 2 hours of straight crying. I just cant do it...I HAVE...and it didnt even work.

We once did CIO everynight for 2 weeks, never fell asleep before 2-4 hours of crying...and that was still hapenning.

We once thought we were successful and it never lasts...we will go say 6 months of good sleep and then this again.

2 months ago he was sleeping FINE...Perfect every night.

Then something happens. Its always a set back.

he has never napped in his crib...well maybe 2-3 times.

He falls asleep on us..and we move him to the couch, chair etc.

I cannot even talk about it, its making me cry b/c I just cannot figure this out. I'm not lying, we tried everything and we fail , because after 2 weeks or so, we need sleep again and the 3 night trick or 5 night trick has NEVER worked.

Do you think that by sitting on the floor of his room, he's just being too tempted to want to be with you? I know for Ava, it was too hard to have me in the room because then she would want to be up with me.
I think that at this age, they have so much more will power, that it makes it hard. I just had to let Ava cry because if I didn't, she'd be up all night. Literally. Hang in there. I know how tough it isChat Icon

With me in the bed, or sometimes he will decide he hates that bed too and want to sleep on the recliner, or hate that and want to sleep on the couch.

Its like living with Stalin...he rules the house for sure ( yes, a HUGE part of the problem!)

Oh, I just saw your post now that CIO doesn't work. Ugg. What about putting his bed in your room? I mean, I know it's not ideal, but maybe it'll help the transition? Or can he fall asleep in your bed, then you transfer him to his bed?

his bed wont fit in my room and I wouldnt mind him falling asleep in my bed, he just WONT. Its torture to get him to bed too. He will stay up till 10-11pm.

I wish I knew a way to get him to fall asleep...and I fear is I teach him to fall asleep in our bed, he will always want to....

SO I THINK...Im gonna try just getting him to fall asleep in his room...anyway neccesary and take that as step one and work on it from there.

Thanks SOOOO much ladies for helping and letting me talk this out.

Im stepping off the ledge now Chat Icon

I totally understand....and I totally understand you do what you have to do to get sleep (Chase is 4 months old, and I have spent practically every night for the past 4 months sleeping on the couch because he sleeps in his chair)

I wish I had the answer for you.

This is a good idea....when he sleeps, how many hours does he sleep?

What about getting like an air mattress or something, and sleeping in his room with him for a little while (i know you are pregnant, maybe your husband can do this?)

What about putting his mattress on the floor in your room? Maybe then you can transition him easier.

Also you said he was afraid of the rail, so maybe putting his mattress on the floor will help.

Re: We moved to the big boy bed..and Im losing my mind

Maybe I'm in the minority but I think doing these things (like putting his mattress in her room, or Donna sleeping in his room) is really just creating another habit that she will need to break down the road. I think it's better to just nip it in the bud as early as possible. You have been dealing with this for wayyyy too long and it's not healthy for anyone involved. You need your sleep (you are now a preggo with twins Chat Icon ) - and he needs his sleep.

Call your Ped, Call a Profession, Call SuperNanny....I just think you need to call someone in who knows what they are doing to help you out...and not just for a short-term fix! Chat Icon
