Weaning from the swaddle.....
With my girls we weaned because they were rolling so they weren't woken up by a fist to the face. He's not rolling, but is totally busting out of the Miracle Blanket.
How long should I expect him to be a disaster before he gets used to no swaddle?

Re: Weaning from the swaddle.....
ugh, already???!!!
If he's already waking throughout the night I would do it now. Would you be putting him in a sleepsack?

Re: Weaning from the swaddle.....
DD took to the sleepsack right away. she was busting out of the swaddle me. turns out she just wanted more freedom. she actually slept better the first night we took the swaddle away and was spread out all night. lol.

Re: Weaning from the swaddle.....
Does he wake up from busting out or just continue to sleep? DS started busting out of swaddles really young, but never woke up. So I did not stop swaddling until he got to big for the swaddles around 7 months. He then went to sleep sacks no problem.

Re: Weaning from the swaddle.....
DS was busting out at a few months old, but I would reswaddle him because I felt like he still needed it. Around 5 months, he wasn't startling himself anymore and I figured it was time to stop. I started with one arm out and did that for about 4-5 nights. Then I just wrapped his body for a few nights and then he was in a sleep sack after a week. The first few nights were rough, but it was worth it. We first tried cold turkey and that was a disaster.

Re: Weaning from the swaddle.....
There was no weaning time for us. The morning I saw DS roll over onto his belly and he couldnt roll back over off of his face because he was swaddled, we quit swaddling cold turkey. We used a sleep sack but the twitching of his arms waking him up took a few nights to get used to... it was torture but after maybe 4 nights, it was like the swaddle never happened.

Re: Weaning from the swaddle.....
We stopped swaddlling at about 3-4 months because he would struggle to break out and would wake himself up. We went to the sleepdsack and although he would startle in the beginning, he was fine after about 3 nights.

We are starting to do this now, DS is 4.5 months. We tried cold turkey a few days ago, it was a disaster too so last night we did one arm out, seemed to go okay.

each night will get better and better. Within 2 weeks, DS was sleeping on his belly and taking great naps.

Re: Weaning from the swaddle.....
Have you tried the Woombie? If you're not ready to give up swaddling yet... there is NO breaking out of the Woombie! We LOVED that thing. We stopped using it around 4.5 months because he was beginning to roll, and he transitioned right to sleep sacks with no problem. But if you're not ready for that yet, I definitely recommend trying the Woombie. Website

Re: Weaning from the swaddle.....
Started at nap time. I did one arm out for a few days, then both arms out for a few days at naptime.
Then I did one arm out at night for a few days, then both arms out for a few days.
then, no swaddle for nap, but still arms out at night, then no swaddle at all. It seemed to work pretty well.

He's waking from busting out.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm going to order that Woombie thing (thank you for the rec', WoS!!) and keep swaddling him overnight.
I tried just a sleepsack for his nap and it was no bueno. He keeps punching himself in the face.
