Weaning HELP (bfing)

My son is around 11.5 months. So I have basically weaned him to mornings and nights and sometimes in the middle of the night once but lately he seems to want it more and sometimes I give in and sometimes I dont. Right now he is in his crib, he should be napping but he is crying for me bc he wants to nurse. He has also beeen fussy with eating lately. My point is, shoudl I be nursing him right now? Yesterday I gave in and he nursed for over and hour at this time and then again before bed and I dont want to start that trend again.

Aside from nursing he drinks two sippys of milk a day (around 3-4 ouncs each one).

I wonder if he needs more nursing sessions or if he just wants it???

I can't tell if he is just being fussy lately and if I should not give in and his appetite will pick up soon or if he is lacking "nutrients" bc I weaned him and he needs to be nursed more...WWYD?Chat Icon

HE has been weaned for a few weeks already to two-three nursing sessions a day and naps were going pretty good

First I want want to say Chat Icon Go Santino! Chat Icon , that's great that you were able to wean him like this already! I personally would stick hard to the schedule, I know its tough but like you said you don't want to give in and go back more nursing sessions. With that said maybe a sippy/bottle? of some warm milk would help him soothe to sleep? Not sure we haven't gotten there yet, sorry I don't have too much advice but Chat Icon you're doing really well, I'm jealous!!!

THanks Cat! I ended up taking him out of the crib and gave him some cows milk. I had to distract him and play a little bit. He took a really long nap early today and since he woke up later then usual I think his second nap was just not happening.

He was literally trying to eat my leg but I just distracted him and he drank a little milk and life went on! Then he ate dinner and I just finished nursing him to bed.

Honestly, I started givign him a little whole milk in the straw sippy early (like 10.5 months). Since he has grown accustomed to it during the day (although he def tries to nurse still) I'm able to stretch out the day and not nurse him. I dropped one session at a time and replaced it with whole milk. Although he is not getting as much milk during the day as he did when he was nursing it is still something. Don't get me wrong though, he sure makes up for it when he does nurse. He wants to nurse foreverrrrrrrrr (it is like he is making up for lost time)! That will be my next challenge.

IF I didn't want to get my body back and regulated I would nurse forever! I just want my body back!

How is your nursing sessions going?????

Well, lets just say not much has changed, I can't introduce milk since he has such a horrible dairy allergy so basically I feel a bit trapped that I can't drop any nursing sessions, he would rather nurse than eat, it is really frustrating I feel like we can't move on to the next step. I would like to drop a few in the middle of the day to get my body back like you said, and I'm going away next week, all the while I was thinking Oh I won't be nursing that much at 10.5 mos well,,,,here we are and lets just say its the same schedule so I'm kinda dreading walking in cities in Europe having to think when and where I can bf next. Aw Cat!I'm so sorry that he has an allery. Aren'tthere certain types of milk you can try to introduce soon? Eitherway,I'm sure he will grow out of it in time.

And..in time he will be eating more. I have to say though, Santino would always rather nurse too. He isnot all that into food and it is sooo frsutrating. I make all of these delicious meals for him and some weeks he is into them and other he is basically throwing them on the floorChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

On a better note...have such a great time in Europe and maybe we can plan a GTG when you get back..we miss you guys!

Re: Weaning HELP (bfing)

I would stay strong and stick to your schedule. I doubt he needs to nurse all of those times. My DD is down to two nursing sessions a day and although I KNOW she's not getting nearly as much milk as she was when nursing four times a day, I know she's okay as well. She maybe drinks 3-5 oz. of milk/BM from the sippy twice a day.
