My cousin got married there and had to hire an outside caterer.. That was a few years ago, I dont know if that has changed...

Honestly, am I the only person who is, like, NEVER actually impressed with wedding food? Its always just ok. I've never had my skirt blown up b/c one particular place was so great.
Nope I feel the same.
I have been to some really good cocktail hours but most of the time the food is just ok at best
They are making it in bulk and so many dinners at once that it's not like it's going to be top restaurant quality IMO
But then again, I am a huge food snob!

Nope I feel the same.

The Mansion at Timber Point
We did a buffet style meal. My big Italian family still raves about the food. We had a barbecue station w/ amazing brisket & stuff. Pastas. Etc..

You are not alone. You will never get a fantastic culinary experience at a catering hall.
I can think back to the wedding venues I *think* had the best food, but of course those are always the weddings I've had the most fun at, so really I think it was probably just the mood and atmosphere of the day, the overall experience, that makes me remember it that way.

I can certainly tell you that the WORST wedding food that I ever had was at Jericho Terrace. I went to like 3 weddings there in 2008 and I remember being very disappointed.

100% flowerfield I'm st. James. We got married there- AMAZING food and service. They are definitely known for good food. They will also customize the menu for you. They are wonderful and I cannot say enough about them.
I went to a wedding here a few years ago and it was absolutely the best food we've ever had at a wedding (mine included, which was at Watermill).

I'm in the camp where even if the food at a catering hall is good it's just good for catering hall food. Maybe I'm just being a food snob. With that said, I've heard excellent things about Russo's. Probably out of the price range (from what I hear) but my BIL got married last month at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and that was AMAZING food. Like gourmet. It may not have been mounds and mounds of food but the quality was great. Even the liquor wine selection was great. I know that paid money for it though.

The El Caribe in Brooklyn IMO- cocktail hour like no other. (Even Russos). (And I didn't get married at either )
We got married at Glen Island Harbor Club and I will say the food was excellent.

I went to a wedding at North Hills Country Club a few months ago. Food was pretty good and there was sooo much of it. More food than I've ever seen at a wedding.

Its so subjective! I love the food at Russos and Marina del Rey, DH has never been impresses.
The most memorable wedding meal we've had was the surf and turf at the Harbor Club in Huntington.
Our reception was not at any of these venues :)

For Italian, Marina del Ray, Russos, and Lombardi's on the Sound (not Villa). For overall wedding excellent food and location, Raphael's Vineyard. Every single person that went to Raphael's loved it and still talk about it. None of these were my wedding.

I've been to several weddings at Russo's and each time was a different experience. Always good food, but very different based on what kind of menu the couple chooses.
I went to a fall wedding there and it was the best reception meal/entree I've ever had at a wedding. It was Pumpkin salmon and it was to die for!

I agree with a pp... some of the places mentioned ive loved and some ive hated
No one has mentioned Milleridge Cottage -- their restaurant is not good (in my opinion) but the hall food at the cottage was delish. Surf and Turf etc. YUM

Giorgios and The Vineyard Caterers. I'm not impressed by a lot of wedding food either but these 2 places had fantastics cocktails hours and main courses.
