Weekend projects - laundry room & kitchen
We needed more storage so we decided to get some already-put-together cabinets from HD for our laundry room. Putting this thing up was a workout (and took a while), but it was definitely worth it and I love how the laundry room looks so custom now!
The handles that came on the cabinet were really cheesy so we got ones that match our kitchen hardware, oval instead of round.
We wanted to hide all the ugly plugs that were between the top of the washer/dryer and the shelf so we got a shower curtain rod from target and my MIL sewed the fabric for it.
(before curtain)
(after curtain)
DH also installed the wood on top of the cabinets so we can put the crown moulding up. FIL will help us with that sometime this week.
We cleaned out our entire guest room last night so it can actually function as a guest room and not a storage room!
Anyone else do any projects this weekend?

Looks great!! I would need a step ladder in the laundry room! I would never be able to reach anything.

wow, that looks awesome. Is your laundry area a room or a closet? I would love to do something like that in my area. I am so impressed by all you have done. You really have a great sense of decorating style!

Thanks. Yes I, and even DH, needs a step ladder to get into it (which we have stored right in the laundry room next to the washer). But we put lots of stuff up there that we won't need to get down very often (extra paper towels, light bulbs, detergents, kitchen electronics we hardly use, etc).

Thank you! It's a laundry room I guess since it has a door and an a/c vent. It looks small in the pics but a few people can fit in there together.
What does your laundry area look like?

Jess....love it! What a great idea. We added some storage cabinets too this weekend, in our laundry/utility room, but we haven't painted yet. I'll post pics a little later.

It is a closet in the kitchen. Nothing you can walk into. We have shelves in there above the washer and dryer. I never thought of cabinets. Wonder if they will fit?

OK how does someone have a laundry room nicer than my bedroom??? It's not fair!! j/k...I know from your posts you and your DH have put in so much hard work. Seriously, even your Laundry room looks like it belongs in a decorator magazine. I love the curtain to cover the outlets idea. Just gorgeous! Enjoy!

Wow, that must've been some project. Popcorn ceilings are really popular in FL from what we've seen so we were SO glad our house didn't have them!
What did they do with the popcorn, did they scrape it all off (which I heard is a royal PITA) or just put a new ceiling over the existing?

Just measure how deep and how wide the space is in the laundry closet and then go to HD or Lowes and ask for laundry room or storage cabinets (already made). Then make sure they are the right depth & width based on your measurements.

We tore down the entire ceiling and replaced with new sheetrock. my house is a huge dust muffin! well, not really, DH was good about keeping doors closed and stuff, but boy the amount of dust that i had to scrub off the hardwood yesterday filled the bottom of my pail! it was sick!

Ugh I can imagine!! We had to sand our concrete floor in a couple places before putting down new flooring... it took forever to get the house dust-free!
It's going to look awesome, can't wait to see pictures.

Re: Weekend projects - laundry room & kitchen
we finally put the shutters back on our house (we painted them black, they were green) so now we have a red door with black shutters. I don't have any pics yet.
I also finished painting the guest room! and finally put the bedding on our bed.
next up...the torturous curtains...and finished painting the guest room.
we also had custom cabinets made for our den, which we are going to stain ourselves (saving us some $$) and we ordered one of the guest beds from Gothic which we need to paint white. we are also having a new carpet put in the den. can't wait for this room to do DONE!
we also started putting up some random pieces of art and decoration.
slowly but surely.
I think I need you to come and hook up my laundry room. it's definitely not as cute as yours
