Weight crazed

This is kind of a general discussion, not just for the diet board.

Does anyone feel that everyone is weight-crazed lately? Or do you yourself feel that way, also?

My other question is, do you feel that other people's perception of themselves impacts how you view yourself? For example, if you're overweight, and someone fit and trim keeps obsessing and complaining that they are eating unhealthy or are fat, does it make you wonder what they must think of you?

Wondering if anyone here feels more pressure now more than ever to lose weight?

Another topic to tie in....if you've lost or gained weight more than your normal range, do you feel people treat you differently than before? I have noticed that myself, and find it disconcerting.

Re: Weight crazed

I always lose/gain the same 10-15 pounds and it's annoying!! I end up feeling badly about myself and mad because it is my own fault.

Generally people don't say anything, but this time around I have been asked twice if I was pregnant. Maybe it's just because I am at a certain age and have been married a certain time, but it is still hurtful. The first time I didn;t mind becuase I was actually losing a ton of weight, going to the gym everyday. The second time hurt more becuase I had gained weight.

I also get down on myself when I see people on FB that are my age with great bodies...even after having kids...

Weight crazed

Far too many skinny people complain about their weight then the overweight people. I feel most overweight people accept they are really fat and own it. When some skinny gal complains about her weight in front of me i laugh in her face and say well at least you only have 5-10lbs to drop not 20,40 60+ lbs.

Agree. I'm ok with who I am. Would l like to be smaller, sure! But I cannot imagine going through life obsessing over it. I don't want to live my life that way.

Re: Weight crazed

I definitely see everyone as being weight obsessed, but in a healthier way than I used to see it. A lot of the things I see for weight loss promote exercise and healthy eating rather than a few years ago when it was the diet pill craze.

Personally, I'm thin. I always have been. Like a pp, I am constantly losing/gaining 10-15 lbs. Now even with the 15 lbs. I might not look fat, but I feel like if you add that extra weight to someone who is skinny, it makes a big difference. I wish I had a picture of my first wedding dress fitting (not when I bought it, the first fitting) but I don't because I deleted them- I may have even burned the memory card to be safe. Chat Icon I looked horrible in that dress! I held it together through the whole appointment and went home and cried my eyes out. In the 2 months leading up to my wedding, I got my ish together and lost 15 lbs. and what a difference it made.

My point in this story is just because some people are thinner, doesn't mean you should scoff at them and it doesn't mean that they don't watch their weight. I'm in a fat stage right now (I seem to go through cycles) and it's really depressing, especially in the summer. Barely any of my clothes are fitting right now. Chat Icon I need to get myself back on track.

Weight crazed

I am completely weight crazed and I can't stop myself! I am not overweight at all but it is something I think about every time I eat something every day of my life!! And I am def guilty of complaining about my weight to people I probably should not complain to, but it is not to be mean or intentional, I just can't help it!!!

I agree with this, and I don't try to do this or be this way (in fact I try NOT to), but I worked very hard to get to where I am and I am now somewhat obsessed with staying that way. I do think though that much of the focus now is on health rather than weight, or even the relationship between the two. For me, it's as much about being fit as it is about being 'skinny'.

I lost a lot of weight and have kept it off for many years (12). I am not crazed, though I am committed to my health and fitness. I eat well and work out, because that is what feels best to me. If I want a cupcake, I will have a cupcake. I was obsessed when I first lost the weight, but no longer think about it all the time.

I hate, hate, hate when people complain about their weight. It is so uncomfortable - especially if you are thin. I have friends that are always like "I am so fat, I'm such a pig, I can't believe I ate that". What is the purpose of this? What kind of response do they want?

I feel like we're obsessed because so many are overweight today when you compare our weight and health as a society to decades ago.

I've always been somewhat concerned with my weight mainly because SO MANY people make comments to or about me in regards to my height and physical body. I'm noticed and remembered by people, so I care (a little too much) about what others think about me. (one of my many downfalls. Chat Icon )

I get a lot of crap about being "skinny" from friends, family and even strangers, but I think I'm pretty normal in weight and I hardly constitute as skinny. I never initially complain or make comments about my weight/figure because it's not something I wish to discuss with other people, but if someone makes a comment to me about my body, I'm honest about how I feel about myself regardless of where they are on the scale.

When I'm out at lounges/bars, women will say things to me like "Wow! You're so tall and skinny!" What the heck am I supposed to say to that? Thanks???? Chat Icon All it does is show me that people notice me and for some reason feel the need to point out my physical appearance.

Re: Weight crazed

I am more concerned with being healthy

in the last 30 days- I have changed my entire lifestyle

I am vegan
I drink veggie juice
daily wheatgrass shot
drink alkaline water
Gluten Free

I want to lose 5-10lbs- but I think I will with out a crazy amount of effort now that I made these changes

out of the 5 things I changed- Gluten free is the hardest- everything has that poison in it

Weight crazed

I don't feel outside pressure to lose. I am putting pressure on myself to get the extra weight I put on During fertility treatments.

I think people are obsessed and sometimes I think the diet and fitness board doesn't help. I also cringe when I hear pregnant woman asking about diets. Our society is insane and eating disorders are running rampant....both over and under eating!!!

I feel like people have been weight crazed for a while. I was when I was younger; now I'm not so much weight obsessed but I care very much about my body fat percentage, measurements and muscle tone.

My other question is, do you feel that other people's perception of themselves impacts how you view yourself? For example, if you're overweight, and someone fit and trim keeps obsessing and complaining that they are eating unhealthy or are fat, does it make you wonder what they must think of you?

How people view themselves has no bearing on how I see myself. Friends have said to me that they're afraid I'm judging their eating habits but I don't. People should eat what they're hungry for. I tend to eat far unhealthier foods than they do anyway.

Wondering if anyone here feels more pressure now more than ever to lose weight?

Any pressure I feel I put on myself. I know what I want to look like; my body is constantly changing. As I reach a goal, I establish a new one.

Another topic to tie in....if you've lost or gained weight more than your normal range, do you feel people treat you differently than before?

I've lost 20 pounds since the end of my marriage. Going from the high end of normal weight range for my height and build to the lower end...yes, I am treated differently. People kind of just make comments about my body to me and I don't know what I'm supposed to say half the time. They are being complimentary but it still kind of stunned by the things total strangers, men and women, will say.

Re: Weight crazed

When I was in college I lost about 30 pounds over a long period of time. I changed my diet and exercised and over the course of a couple years I changed my body. I was treated VERY differently . I was not fat before but having never worked out or play sports my body looked very different after. People said things to me like "wow you look SOOOOO much better" 'WOW you are soooo pretty NOW". It made me feel like shit, like what was I a train wreck before?

I have gained since college, now after having a baby I am not at a weight I am happy with. I look okay but I want to tone up and lose some so I am just recently started TRX and personal training. Do I feel pressure to look a certain way? I do, but bc I like how I look when I am thinner and toned...no one puts the pressure on me, if anything people tell me I look good. Also my DH is extremely fit and muscular, he works out 5 days a week, always has as he grew up an athlete. THAT makes me feel like I need to look a certain way bc, well, no one wants to be the fat one Chat Icon

ETA: So am I weight crazed? somewhat, sometimes I am guilty of complaining more about it then ACTING on making it better Chat Icon

See for me I just wanna ***** outoud. I do not want any kind of response. It actually annoys me when someone responds with "you are soo skinny" because at the moment I feel like a fat pig even though it doesn't appear that way and I just want to be able to say it without any comments. I don't know it sounds crazy but I swear I am not looking for attention of any sort, just wanna sort of vent and I can't stop myself from saying it outloud it just happens lol

I don't mind if someone is working hard to lose weight but they are having trouble (can't find the right program, struggling due to a medical reason, etc). Trying to lose weight and not feeling comfortable in your own body is very frustrating and sometimes even downright depressing!
It annoys the crap out of me when someone complains about their weight as they chow down on a mcdonalds value meal and xlarge coke.

I'm very relieved to have some posters say they complain about their weight to people they shouldn't but that they do it because they can't help it.

Many people around them do it to me - I have weight to lose- and I always wonder what they think of me then, kwim?

I see some of you aren't thinking that way. Which is good to know.

I won't lie though..I've become more preoccupied with my weight issues more than ever before and I do attribute it to everyone else around me. I never had this issue before.

I am thin, and people feel free to tell me that all the time. I find it very annoying because of the way its being said. In order for Me to be at an ideal weight I need to work out. My body is not lean, it's actually very curvy, but my legs and arms are thin. Then these same people complain about their own weight to me.

Quoting you because I wanted to say, I never notice other people's weight, I'm not weight conscious at all. I only notice skinny people and think look how skinny he or she is .

Re: Weight crazed

I would not consider myself weight crazed, but I am conscious of my weight and my fitness level. To me being able to run a sub 21 minute 5K is more important than being a twig.

I feel like most people I know have become more health and fitness crazed/conscious. Most of my friends are running 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons, marathons or they are doing mud runs and triathlons. No one, however, seems more concerned about their weight than they were 5-10 years ago.

I do not think how others view themselves affects my view of myself. I try not to complain about my weight since I realize that I am in shape. I think though I have just as much right as anyone else to have an off day and just not feel good in my skin. Do I make a habit of it? No, but sometimes you just have a rough week, you ate like crap, you didn't make it to the gym, you have your period, your clothes are not fitting right, and you feel like a whale. I hate when people tell me since I am "skinny" I can not complain.

Also, unfortunately, I think sometimes people are treated differently based on their weight. I have seen it first hand. I also think though confidence is a big factor. I know people who have gained weight and are treated no differently than they were when they were skinny.

ETA: I hate when people tell me how lucky I am to be skinny. I am literally running 40-50 miles a week (training for various races) and lifting 1-2 times a week. Luck has nothing to do with it.

Re: Weight crazed

Does anyone feel that everyone is weight-crazed lately? Or do you yourself feel that way, also?

-I notice a lot more people around me being weight-crazed lately. I don't feel like I am, at all. I try to eat very healthy most of the time but I'm not as focused on a number on the scale like I was, say, right before my wedding, or a couple of months post-baby.

Wondering if anyone here feels more pressure now more than ever to lose weight?
-Not personally, no.

Another topic to tie in....if you've lost or gained weight more than your normal range, do you feel people treat you differently than before?

-I wouldn't say treated differently but the comments are just mindblowing. I am 9.5 mos post partum. When I came back to work at 3 mos post partum, I was back at my pre pregnancy weight. I got so many compliments on how great I looked, etc.
Fast forward to now. I have lost an additional 18lbs since then - and man, people are NASTY. "Do you starve yourself?" "You look unhealthy." "Having a baby doesn't mean you're supposed to stop eating." I could go on and on. I find it extremely rude. And it's not like I don't eat - that's not even remotely the case. To be honest I think it's an underlying medical issue that needs to be addressed, but I don't feel the need to go explaining that to nasty people.

And to boot, I am still squarely within the "normal" weight range for my height. Not even on the low end.

Re: Weight crazed

This is a touchy topic for me, I have been thin all of my life and wouldn't say I complained about being fat but definitely didn't like my body for awhile and made that known. But that wasn't me trying to get attention or compliments, it was a much deeper issue.

I'm going to suggest that sometimes (and this is really a lot of the time thin women are not confident about their bodies, no matter how others may view them, its almost like you can never be "thin enough." So to defend women that are thin and say they think they are fat, they probably have something else going on in their head.
