Weird experience

For those who know the story of my brother you might understand what I was feeling. If this belongs somewhere else, please move if needed.

Today, about 3 years since he was discharged from rehab, I went to the storage unit that had his stuff that his son and DH stashed after they cleaned out this apartment.

I hadn't been there at all. I had no idea what I would find and both my nephew and DH didn't remember how much stuff was there.

I went through certain boxes. I knew he was a sentimental guy about family since he was adopted. Maybe more than I am. He has drawings that his youngest did when he was 5. He had pics from when he was a baby, being held by my grandmother, grandfather, cousins..the usual of course mom and dad.

I won't go into the details of the rest but he hasn't seen these things and probably doesn't remember they exist.

I will bring them to him next weekend. I'm sure he will look at these things over and over again. I'm glad these things weren't discarded.

He has a lot of clothes and we have since gotten him a lot of new ones. For the clothes that are in good shape, I will donate them. The others will get tossed. He is not close to that size.

There were only 13 boxes. That was it. The rest of the stuff was tossed.

Here is a man that has accumulated a lot of things since, but his past life had only 13 boxes left.

I couldn't help but cry for the man that was. The things he won't remember.

But I am happy that he got another chance at life.
