I never said I would NOT let them use the bathroom. No one said that actually. Strangers using my personal bathroom is gross to ME. I don't care if they are blue collar or the President

I have had a lot of work done on my home but I would never offer the workers lunch. I think they should take a lunch break and drive to the deli like everyone else. We always offer them bottled water. I would let them use the bathroom as I would rather that than them pee in my yard when I wasnt looking!!!!!!!! ha ha ha!!!!!!!!

I always buy workers lunch and many sort of expect that treatment so clearly they were giving you a hint. And the way I see it is, it's something small I can do for people who are doing work on MY home. As for the bathroom, generally workers who do work for me outside have never (only once Ishould say) asked to come in and use the bathroom. I did allow it that once but it is not something I would be happy about. I also skeeve random people using my toilet.

I'm usually the type who would just offer whatever i have...but for them to ask is rude! Bathroom is normal though unless you want them going around outside ur house.

The lunch thing is a weird situation, If you didn't say anything you might have to chalk it up to something you might of offered at the end of the job. If they didnt use your restroom they most certainly would be "watering" your lawn. We usually offer up drinks and food to people doing work at the house.

I agree. I cant even stand when we have a party at the house and people are using the bathroom, it means i need to clean the toilet after their arses have been on it.
People need to relax!!!!

Thanks for all your replies. We let the whole food thing slide bc we felt bad saying anything. If they ask again this week, I'll be saying something.

In no way did I mean to imply that they they were third world citizens... not really sure where that came from. These men are working in our garage... Cutting wood, painting, sweating, etc. They are filthy and I'm sleeved at my bathroom mat and towels getting disgusting... especially since I have a young son who uses the same space. I would never ever say no to them, which is why they were in and out all day. I just found it odd bc no workers have ever asked before.

My DH is a contractor and NEVER asked the homeowner to order lunch ever. He takes his own lunch break. Unless he's working on friend's homes who has made him food he either works through lunch, brings a little something or goes to a fast food place close by and eats in his truck. If he's close to home then he goes home.
He also tells me he never uses the bathroom either. Just his body is used to it or something and if he does he's gone out. Like I said..l unless he knows the people he's working for.
I think it is totally rude to ask the owner to order and buy. Totally wrong. I worked in an office and didn't expect the building owner or my boss to provide my lunch for me. I brought my own in or went out. DH always keeps a case of water in the truck for himself too.
Eta... Wanted to also add I don't even like DH coming in dirty to the house. Depending on what he does that day there are times he strips down and the clothes go straight to the washing machine and he jumps in the shower. He knows he's a mess sometimes and would never go into someone's home to use their bathroom. He happens to be very clean in homes with lots of tarps and anything to keep the mess to a minimum. He even sometimes takes his shoes off if he goes through carpet. Not work with his shoes off, but respects homes and does what he can to keep it clean and in order.

I have no issues with contractors using my bathroom and I always leave the door unlocked so they don't have to knock.
In re: to lunch, I never had anyone ask me to order them food but I always offer and sometimes won't ask but will surprise them with sandwiches, bagels or pizza.

Was the food delivered or did you pick-up? If delivered and they are working outside, why didn't you tell the pizza guy to deliver to the workers?
Maybe the guys asked you to order lunch since they may not be familiar with the area or where to order from but wasn't expecting you to pay. When it was delivered to the door, you accepted the order, paid and then brought out to guys they might have just assumed it was your treat.
If you picked up then well, yeah it's a little presumptuous for them not to offer you money.

We had work done that literally took 7 months. Granted they were not here every week but they used our bathroom. We did not ever buy them lunch.

I think the lunch thing is very weird & rude... it would be one thing if they paid you back but to expect you to pay for their lunch, that's crazy. The bathroom thing not so bad unless they left it disgusting afterward or something.

I had contractors over my house recently. I had no problem with them using the bathrooms. I mean I can't say no. Where else are they going to go? I would give them bottles of water throughout the day. But they were on their own with lunch. That is crazy that they expect you to get them lunch!

I had my roof done a couple of weeks ago. They were there all day and I thought it was weird that they never asked to use the bathroom I was actually going to offer it..I will admit I really did not want strangers using my bathroom because they were filthy from working but I did feel bad if they were holding it in all that time lol
As far as lunch they asked me to pick up pizza and said they would pay me for it but I didn't take the money.

Bathroom thing I would expect, unless they brought their own potty, where would they go? I would probably make them take their shoes off though 
The lunch thing is super rude IMO. I was going to say I can understand them asking you to order it, but I am sure every one of them has a cell phone, so IDK even about that.

The bathroom thing, yeah - I hated the fact that I had to scrub the bathroom EVERY DAY until they left - but what are you going to do?
The lunch thing - ABSOLUTELY NOT!
We're usually both @ work anyway - but when we had work done while I was on maternity leave I'd bring them out iced tea, or leave a cooler w/ water - but never did I buy them lunch.
I usually get them pizza on the last day on the job ......but that's kind of a 'thank you' thing - NOT a requirement.

DH is a contractor. Of course they are going to use the bathroom... where do you think they are going to go? But the lunch thing is obviously them taking advantage. DH would never even ask a client to order them lunch, let alone let them pay.

The thing I do for people doing work on my home is pay them. 
That being said- if I was home when the work was being done on my house- I would be sure to offer water or something else to drink and if it was a long term project I'd probably buy lunch once a week.
When we did major renovations, I was at work all day so they took care of themselves. I left out the filled Brita pitcher and cups before I left.
