Weirded out by a phone call I got yesterday... (looooong)
Last night the phone rang around 8:45 and FH picked it up. It was for me but he didn't know who it was. I got on the phone and it was a woman calling.
She seemed confused about my contact information because my address was listed as West Babylon (where I live now) and Bohemia (where I grew up and my where my parents still live). So I asked her what this was all in reference to. She said she was trying to find her husband .
I explained to her that my parents still live in Bohemia and have lived in the same house for almost 25 years and I've lived in W.Bab for 2 1/2 years with my FH (I wanted to make it clear that her husband was NOT shackin' up with me!!).
She starts asking me questions about the house that I grew up in and the people who lived there before my parents. I of course had no info for her because my parents moved in when I was about 6 months old. I told her that I could give my mother her phone number so my mom can contact her. She then told me that wasn't necessary, she already had my mom's number .
I'm starting to freak out a little bit. I asked her how she got all of this information and she said she found it on the internet in connect with her husband's name . She said she had my grandparents number which is when I told her do NOT call them, my grandfather is no longer living and my grandmother is not well. She KNEW that my grandfather had passed a year ago and she even knew that my aunt (my grandparents daughter) had passed 13 years ago. I asked her how long her husband has been "missing"... 13 years She even knew the addy's that my g-parents had lived at in previous years...
I'm freaked out.. She gave me her phone number "just in case". She's out in Cali. I of course immediately called my mom who was equally freaked out and can't figure out the connection. We have ZERO information for this poor woman about her missing husband.
I'm just freaked out because my name got into the mix... I'm barely 25 years old and barely a blip on the radar, I don't own anything, I have very little credit.. my mom doesn't understand this either....
Would you be freaked out by all of this? How would you handle it? Would you just brush it off as a misunderstanding or would you try and get to the bottom of it (and how?!)?
Sorry this is so long...

Holy WEIRD....
That would freak me out ..should have asked her where EXACTLY on what site or what research on the web lead her to you so you could investigate it and get it REMOVED.

I would not call her back ever. How or why your name came up is irrelevant. She is clearly looking for something from you. If she calls again, hang up.

How weird! Can you call her and ask where she got the info and why she thinks your family is somehow related to the situation?

I would be freaked out.
Since you have her number, I would call it and ask her a few questions myself. Like how she was able to find out all this information on you and your family. Than see if you can get some info on her.

Did she say what her name & her husband's names were? Maybe you could look online & see if you can figure out the connection yourself.
Or maybe he just has the same name as someone in your family or something.
I'd be more intrigued than freaked out ( I love a good mystery), but my DH would probably tell me it just some crazy person being crazy.

Google the name and number. I found my Fathers "new" addresses here many times. You can get a lot of info. Good Luck.

She gave her name and she gave her husband's name. The name is so unusual so I don't think someone in my family (very Irish family) would have this last name.
My mom's on the case... I'm leaving it in her hands... if I muster up the courage, I'll have to call her. She said he was 60 when he "disappeared" that would make him 73 now.

Did she explain at all why she thought your family might somehow be connected to her husbands disappearance? Clearly she must think that there is a connection or she wouldnt have all this information about you. Very strange.

Maybe she got your info from one of those peoplefinders websites. There was some info posted about that website a few days ago and for a fee, it seems that anyone can find out info on you and all your family members...its quite scary.

Re: Weirded out by a phone call I got yesterday... (looooong)
If she didn't explain to you why she thinks that your family has any connection to this person, then how does she even expect you to help her? I wouldn't say very much at all and I'd ask more questions than I would answer.
My mother's uncle's estranged ex-wife, who abandoned him and their son years ago and took their daughter with her started calling family members years after his death. She was obviously trying to find out if he had money when he died. At that point, it was none of her business but the truth was that he really didn't have anything. She had made no effort while her husband and son were alive and she had no idea that her son had actually passed away before her ex-husband (still may not know). In some cases, people don't deserve the information they seek.

I never looked at it from that angle.... I'll have to get more info about the conversation my mom had with her.. maybe there are some more "clues" there.

I would be very freaked out and I would talk to the police. Not sure if they could do anything but maybe you could give them her contact number just in case she contacts you again.

Go to peoplefinder.com and put her name in and she what you come up with. Whilst your on there put your own name in, its is scary what information is out there. I have only lived in the US for 8 years so there is nothing on there in my name, but DH has been here 20 years and it lists all his previous addresses and even his old room mates!
I would call her back and ask her some questions.

A lot of you are saying I should call her back... How do I approach that one? Not that I would, I'm too chicken shiit to do that, but on the off chance I've had too much to drink ()

I agree with the peoplefinders.com. I just looked myself up and me, my dad, mom, sister and dh came up. You can find ANYONE doing this. If she paid money she could find anything out.
