"Well paying jobs"
When you say that you or DH has a "well paying job", what do you consider well paying?

Re: "Well paying jobs"
I would consider 6 figures to be well paying, but still not everyone can make ends meet on that. I think that combined income has to be 200K before a family is considered to be "doing well" financially. The number of families for which that is a reality is lower than we realize because not everyone will talk about it if they aren't up there in salary. Also, I have known a number of people who only had 2-3 good years in a fly by night type of job. I don't consider that to be success.

Re: "Well paying jobs"
Oh Long Island, I would probably consider that to be 100K+ ---- just because everything is so darn expensive here that I think with less then that it would be hard to live "comfortably."
I also think that for many people, the more you make, the more you spend....

Re: "Well paying jobs"
In my eyes, it depends on the job.
If I was a bagger at a supermarket, and was paid 60K a year, I'd consider that well paid for the skill necessary.

I feel sometimes like I live in Poverty based on what I see in these posts and surveys...
A good income is less those those above to me. Not much less but we do not make a 3 figure income and we dont suffer....well we cannot afford a nice house here on LI but we are ok in other ways.....

Re: "Well paying jobs"
I'd say over $125K
edited to change my mind, I'd say $115k is well paying, but with a family, I'd say over 125K..depending on mortgage and lifestyle.

Wow, I was thinking the same thing. I make less than what is up there, as well as Dh.( well.. not much less), and we own a home and are able to afford LI, and go on a vacation a year and are able to afford to go out. So I consider what we make to be decent but compared to the above poster, I guess we are poverty stricken....lol

I think everyones opinion on what is well-paying depends on the lifestyle they were brought up in, not just if you can afford to live with out struggling. I think people are conditioned to hold a certain level of weath/income/lifestyle normal...and we are all conditioned very differently.

I can agree to a certain extent. I do not consider our salaries to be, " well paying jobs", but I was just surprised to see everyones opinion of well paying jobs.
I certainly live differently than I was raised and still think i make a decent salary, so the wasy i was conditioned has nothing to do with how i feel now.

Re: "Well paying jobs"
i think any of those are "well paying" and i never say that dh and/or i are well paid, because we aren't. i definitely am in awe of what some posters on here seem to make/have. dh and i live paycheck to paycheck and always have credit card debt. it sucks living on l.i. but that's where our families are and i just can't live without mom

Re: "Well paying jobs"
I think a lot of criteria factor into what I would consider a well-paying job:
industry, responsibility, age, location, etc.
I think I am well-paid for my industry and my age. Now in comparison to my husband, I am nowhere near well-paid. However, he has more education, more responsibility.

Re: "Well paying jobs"
We both do well within our fields.
As Biggie used to say:
"Mo money, mo problems."
I know MANY people who have jobs that pay $250K, but they also have alimony payments, child support and high taxes.

Re: "Well paying jobs"
Damn, guess I'm screwed.
With that said, you can be well-paid and still not have the ability to save a dime. So, it isn't always so much how much you make but how you spend it. I would be delerious if I made 80K. Not there. Oh well. Consider me poverty level too!

Re: "Well paying jobs"
I don't think there is a one size fits all answer- everyone has there own lifestyle and wants, needs
some people might live great on less then $100K- some people might struggle with $200K
I def agree with the more you make the more your spend- for myself I am trying to get out of that cycle and live on less and save more-

Definitely over $125K for a family (or those that want a family).
ditto especially for Long Island. But inmo, you have to make upwards of 200,000 to live comfortably here.

Re: "Well paying jobs"
Why is there nothing below $75K on that list?
I consider $50K+ to be well-paying, honestly. We survive on a lot less
