Well this is sexy. I woke up with a cold sore!
on my lip. Only the second time I have ever had one. Last time it freaking disfigured my lip for 3 weeks. I hope it's not as bad this time. I probably got it from stress and having a cold the past few days. Any advice? Neosporin okay to put on it? I'll look hot today.

Oh that's a bummer! Yes, neosporin is fine to put on it. If that doesn't work, I know the drug store has a bunch of things that might speed the recovery process along!

So gross. It's already blistery so I hope this is the worst of it. I'm going to apply Neosporin all day long and wash my hands like a mad woman....think I should throw out the lipstick I wore yesterday? I felt nothing yesterday though...and that lipstick was $$$!

I would hold off on throwing out the lipstick. If anything, just wipe it down with a tissue.

I am prone to them and I would throw out the lipstick.....a few times I have kept something I used the day before and ended up with another in a few weeks. Even though I don't know if that is what caused the new ones I wouldn't take chances!
Also, Herpecin-L which they sell in the drug stores works great!

Re: Well this is sexy. I woke up with a cold sore!
i used to get them all the time - I definitely feel like mine are triggered by stress. I'm panicking for the wedding!!!
I use Abreva at the first sign of tingle, and it never even comes out. I love that stuff.
The sad part is that I've had the virus that causes cold sores dormant in my body since I'm a BABY! The virus is transferred by touch...when I was a little baby, my Dad had one and kissed me...I inherited it. 90% of Americans are carrying that virus (although it sounds gross, it really is a variation of herpes...but NOT the kind you get in the "happy place"). It lays dormant in most and they'll never get a cold sore in their lives, but they still have it!!!!
Feel better!

Me too!!!! Although mine hasn't broke yet. I have downed a bunch of Lysine to stop it from coming out (I swear by this) and put some abreva on it. I unfortunately am prone to them, they SUCK!!!!!!!!!! I didn't have one for years and the past 6 months I have gotten like 1 a month.

You can also buy Abreva or Novitra - they help speed up the process of healing. They are OTC but a little pricey - anywhere from 15-20 bucks for a little tube

Re: Well this is sexy. I woke up with a cold sore!
Go to the drug store and get cold sore medicine. Definiteyl do the hot tea bags and I use an exfoliater on it, it keeps the scabbing down (like st. ives almond scrub)

The best thing is ABREVA--a tiny bit is like $18 but it works right away!

I hate those I agree, I find Abreva helps heal it really quickly. Last time I used it , my coldsore shrunk a bit pretty quickly.

I dont think you need to throw out the lipstick. i would just shave the top off. But it sounds like you have oral herpes - you might want to call your doctor and ask for a perscription of Valtrex.

Just so you know - it actually can be transferred to the "happy place", thru direct contact. And even if you dont have a cold sore, there is still a risk that you pass the virus to your partner.

According to my doctors (I consulted 3, because i had a cold sore for my e-party and was reallllly concerned about the wedding), they are 2 totally different viruses.
Oral herpes is NOT genital herpes, and it absolutely cannot "turn into" genital herpes.

My doctor said the same thing - they are totally unrelated.
Meanwhile I am miserable here as I feel this thing tingle and itch above my lip.

Re: Well this is sexy. I woke up with a cold sore!
I get cold sores too and with this dry and cold weather I'm so nervous of getting one, so I keep Blistex DCT in the pink pot on all day.
When I feel the tingle, I use Lysine (500 mg) which I get at the Vitamin Shoppe and take 3 pills 3 times a day. It is an enzyme and it helps to build up your immune system. It usually prevents the blister from getting big. I also like the Aveno cold sore treatment. The Abreva didn't work for me.

Re: Well this is sexy. I woke up with a cold sore!
Valtrex-Pill form..works awesome. Soon as u feel the tingle take one, recovery time cut in 1/2 and gone ASAP! Add abreva to it as well and take lysine pills.
I feel for ya...I suffer them as well and pregnancy also dosent help. SO far had 3.

I am wearing a little combo of Herpecin L and Neosporin. My doctor was able to send a prescription over to my pharmacy, but then my pharmacist told me to try Lysine herb instead. She said, "Take 6 today and then one a week." We'll see. Now I have to try and get there to pick it up on the way home!
I keep applying the Herpecin, but that makes me feel like I am infecting it. As for the lipstick, she told me wipe it down but don't toss it. The virus can't live long on the lipstick. I will also shave down my lip pencil.

No, on it's own it cant turn into genital herpes. but the two viruses are very much related and you can, in fact, pass your oral herpes (typically HSV-1) onto a person thru oral sex in which case they will have genital herpes (although it is still HSV-1 and not the more common genital herpes virus HSV-2). You can easily research this on the internet. Most people dont know that this is the case. I believe Lolita posted about how she unknowingly transferred her oral herpes to her genitals.
i just think people should be more aware of this information because you could be putting your partner at risk.

that's what I thought. Well, I DO NOT HAVE genital herpes, thank the Lord in heaven above, and I certainly will not be giving DH a blow job tonight. He might get the steak, but not the other part! AH AHA! Now, HOW did she transfer it? I am washing my hands like crazy......
