Went to the ENT today... Good news and bad news, I guess
Julie has chronic ear infections... she had 4 last winter, and then made it through June and July without one. She got another in mid-August and it hasn't gone away... since August! She has been on Omnicef, high-dose amoxil, and Augmentin. We are on our second round of Augmentin.
So, we went to the ENT today, and she is still infected. The dr was so shocked by the state of her ears, after all of these antibiotics, that we scheduled the tubes operation right then and there. He says he RARELY does that, preferring to see how they do over a span of a few weeks or months. He also sent usimmediately over to the audiologists office (usually a seperate appointment) and Julie is not hearing anything at all. Her tympanogram was a FLAT LINE . The dr said she is probably hearing things like she's underwater.
So, surgery is scheduled for Nov 3, and I am very happy with that. Because her ears are still infected, they are going to sort of "clean out" the infected fluid and junk before they put the tube in. I just hope this baby can feel better soon!!!

Sounds like a good doc.
DS had a lot of ear infections. They didn't stop right after the tubes. They just gave him drops. I don't want to curse myself but he's been really good for about 4-6 mos now.
I will tell you - when they have tubes and get an ear infection - this nasty wax comes out of their ears - that's okay - its good.
Good luck w/ the op - its an easy recovery - worse on you then her.

Great doc you have. Abby got tubes at 10 months. Hasn't had an infection since. Feel free to FM with any questions.

Liam had the exact same thing. Except add to that, a really bad bug in his colon because of overuse of antibiotics.
He got the tubes and they are nothing short of amazing. The dr. also recommended it at the first appointment.
He started talking more right away. He started walking right away and he hasn't had many problems. Right away he got a clog from dried blood and a few weeks later he had an infection that was treated with drops. But, really they have been a dream. The surgery was a breeze also.
