Were you and your mom always "friends"?
I was just thinking about the relationship I have with my mom.
She was definitely my "mom" when I was younger.
I would say she became my "friend" at about 18 or so.
Thoughts?

Same here. We have a good relationship, but she is definitely my mom. We have "friend" moments especially since I got pregnant and became a mom myself, but she is overall a mom.

Re: Were you and your mom always "friends"?
My mom has ALWAYS been my friend, except for a few years in high school when I had a boyfriend that she really HATED... we always joke now that it was a period where we couldn't stand each other

Re: Were you and your mom always "friends"?
We were always REALLY close. I always did things with my mom that I would also do with friends and told her things I would also talk to friends about. She was always a mom AND a friend... and still is!

We butted heads BIG time when I was a teen. We got close after I was married. We became friends after I became a mother myself.

Re: Were you and your mom always "friends"?
I like how Shelly put it - we have our friend moments, but she's always my mom. And those friend moments only began when I was about 18 or so. We're a lot closer now, but she was definitely not my friend when I was young.

same with me. I feel like we have more "in common" now that I'm a mom and I appreciate her more now, but she's still my mom more than a friend. I'm happy with that. There are certain "friend" things I just can't imagine talking to her about.

I would say from age 13-17 we were downright enemies.
Now we are good friends.

I get along much better with my mom now. I'd say we're more friends now.
In late high school I hated her. And she admits she was a nightmare, and it was mainly because of my ex stepfather.
