Re: Were you and your mom always "friends"?
She was very much a parent until I got married. Now she is one of my best friends, but can still be a parent when she needs to be.

Re: Were you and your mom always "friends"?
My mom and I have always been close, but have become more friends and equals the last few years , especially since I got married and moved out.

She as always been my mom - I wouldn't say we are "friends" but we definitely get along better now that I'm older
Same here. But I wouldn't want to be friends with my mom.

For the most part we have always been friends, but the "mother" role was never doubted (I knew that even though we were friends, don't cross mom.) There has always been a very delicate balance . . .

Re: Were you and your mom always "friends"?
I would not say we are friends.
When I was little, she was class mom, made my lunches, helped with projects, drove us places.....Now as I am older......she is still my mom & does mom things like make the best Sunday dinners, best Birthday dinners, she is an outrageous baker.......she is my mom!! And always has been a good one!!!
BUT.....as a friend? Well friends don't leave friends in the dust when they go riding together do they? They don't "forget" to ask if other friends want to go with the rest of the family on a Sunday ride somewhere do they? She makes a lousy friend.........
But she is a good Mom!!

Re: Were you and your mom always "friends"?
IMO- Mom's should be moms and friends should be friends
Never the twain shall meet!
That being said- I had a rough relationship with my mom as a mom growing up, so we never will have a "friend" like relationship anyway

Re: Were you and your mom always "friends"?
She's my mom. She was a cool mom to my friends. They could talk to her about things. She was not the "friend mom" by any means.
Now she's friends but to a point. My friends I talk to about everything - including DH stuff. I keep the DH stuff out of our conversations. It's easier for a friend to forgive stuff than a parent.

So true!
Not to mention, friends will most likely be more "neutral" and see the situation for what it really is; whereas family will most likly take "your side" of a situation.
I find if I want truly honest answers to my questions or vent, I ask my friends.

We were always REALLY close. I always did things with my mom that I would also do with friends and told her things I would also talk to friends about. She was always a mom AND a friend... and still is!
I could have written this myself. My mom & I were always close & I consider her one of my best friends. We use to spend a lot of time together & I truly enjoyed it. When I moved out last year, we use to make it a point to go grocery shopping every Friday together & always ran our errands together. I always confided in my mom with things you usually just told friends.
I am so glad we had the relationship we did & never considered her JUST my mom!
