I'm 31 and was definitely spanked as a kid. DS is 3 and I've never felt the need for it. I doubt I ever will. DH and I use time-outs and they work very well.

I got slapped on the tush maybe a handful of times if I did something really bad, like go into the street or get realllllllly fresh.

I will never say never when our LO arrives, so ill wait and see if there's ever a scenario that could warrant a little slap in the butt. I will always try other methods first. I don't particularly care for getting physical with children in general (grabbing, hitting, yelling).

On a few occasions I was, but I don't plan on spanking. My mom always gave us "the look" that was more intimidating than anything else, so I plan to use that approach lol

I was spanked on occasion.

My daughter is 6, and so far has never been spanked.....I won't say I won't ever...but it's not my plan to start anytime soon.

I was, when I was acting like a little brat not listening to what I was being told - and totally deserved it.

No plans for kids. But getting spanked now and then taught me not to be a snotty little fck, so I definitely do think that some kids need a smack or two now and then. Not all...but some.

Yes I was, very occasionally. And yes I will, and have, if its for a serious offense. "The look" only works if they have something to be afraid of.

No and no. I believe there are other ways to handle discipline, I am against spanking.

I was for major things I did wrong. Like running out into the street.

I have found my methods for discipline (which I rarely need to use - luckily) work without spanking. I have spanked once or twice, but it didn't work.

I don't judge (or I try not to) but the people I know who spank - well, it just doesn't seem to work. The kids still act up even with warnings of a spank and then they still end up getting spanked.

I feel like from what I have seen and experienced, an isolated spank for some major reason may work. But I see kids acting like bored kids in the stores and they aren't doin anything bad - they just are bored and I hear parents warn of a spanking.

That's when I think parents are using a wrong approach, if that makes sense? Not wrong where they shouldn't spank at all... But I feel like things could be handled much easier and peacefully for both the parent and child.

I was once and I never had to be spanked again after incident. Or (more likely), I learned to run faster.

I was on occasion. I probably wont to my own mostly because I don't think it changed my behavior, I was that much of a brat.

I was beaten. Bloody noses, belt marks across my back and bottom, stomped by my dad with his timberland construction boots on, choked, spanked with my underwear pulled down etc.

I always swore I wouldn't spank my kids when i got older.

I have a son now. I have spanked him (not full on spanking...but a swat to the diapered toosh when he kept climbing on and dancing on the dining room table after i said no, did time out, threatened to go to bed early) I only tried it bc nothing else was working. That didn't work either and it didn't make me feel good so I don't do it.

I feel that for me, spanking did not work. It only made me want to be sneakier so i wouldn't get caught. It didn't address the behavior. This is what I try to keep in mind when parenting my son. I have no magic answers as to what does work...but I know that for me spanking didn't work and it only excalated as a way for my parents to get their frustrations out...not as a way to teach me.
