Re: What age did you start sending your DC to school?

DD started when she was 3, because it was the start of the school year. She was watched by my MIL prior to that, and I didn't see the need to get her into preschool any earlier.

ETA: Plus, the school I send her to doesn't start until a little over 2.5 years.

Jack went when he was two.

2 days a week for 2 hours. It was such a great experience for him. He loved every minute of it. He really learned so much too.

September Tyler will be going 3 days a week when he will be 2 on Oct 15th.

ETA: Almost every kid in Jacks three year old class started in the 2 program.

I'm not yet but I'm a planner and I like doing the legwork and planning wayyyy ahead of time for everything. I'm starting slow and signing DS up for soccer class this spring, swim this summer, and basket ball in the fall. Its only one day a week but it'll help build him up to being around other kids and an instructor on a regular basis.

My preschool allows you to start the kids at 18 months. I didn't start until B was 2 and a half. He would have started earlier but the start of the school year coincided with the birth of his younger brother and I thought he had enough changes going on that I didn't want to introduce school until after he had adjusted.

Re: What age did you start sending your DC to school?

DS started at age 2 because I was PG with DD and I wanted to make sure he had some kind of socialization with kids his own age. I figured that with a newborn being cooped up inside would not be fun so we started then. While I paid for 3 days a week, he really started off slowly and went only 2 days a week for the first two months to ease him into school. I felt like there was a lot of change going on in his life and wanted to make it easier on him.

DD will be 2 at the end of September. I think I am going to sign her up at the same place I take DS for 1 day a week starting in January 2012.

Re: What age did you start sending your DC to school?

DD started a Toddler gym nursery program last sept at 23 months (turned 2 in oct). This class was for 2 yr olds.
I started her at this age primarily for fun and socialization. She is an only child and even though we are always out and about w/ friends and family we thought this would be good for her. It has been amazing! She loves it. We send her 2 days a week for 2 hrs 45 min. She does gymnastics/arts/crafts/circle time w/ singing and story time. They have pizza delivered for the last 1/2 hr.
We are very glad that we sent her, and next yr we will send her for 3 days!

Re: What age did you start sending your DC to school?

DS will be 3y9m when he starts. He will go for 2 years prior to entering Kindergarten

I didnt sign him up earlier because honestly I just didn't think there was much benefit to it. And I feel like they are only little once and I want both him and myself to enjoy this time before he is in school to do what we want and try different things etc.

ETA: DS has done library classes, mommy & me gymnastics, music class, swim lessons and a multi sports class at various times.

They started in September when they were 3 (they turned 3 in May, so they were closer to 3.5). they went 3x a week for 3 hours a day.

Re: What age did you start sending your DC to school?

We enrolled DS when he was 2. He goes 3 days a week for 2.5 hours - and he'll have the same schedule (same school, different teachers) when he is 3.

DS is a shy kid by nature and I felt it was important for him to have more interaction with peers in a structured environment. We have a nanny, and she's great, but the socialization he gets at school is invaluable.

Re: What age did you start sending your DC to school?

Charlie will start in September at 3 - 3 days a week/5hrs a day.

Honestly, I'm still not sold on school at this age - but she is so excited to start and has been begging me to go for at least a year now.

We've done many classes together and some separation classes as well so I'm not concerned about her...its more me, having a hard time cutting the strings Chat Icon

Re: What age did you start sending your DC to school?

4.5...Chat Icon and we are still on the fence.

he has no issues with his little hour, 2 hour classes or camps.
from day 1, marched right in and told me to go wait in car.
listens, pays attention, interacts.

so now he is on a waiting list for preschool.

if he doesn't get into that one, i can't see spending the money on another one...4 mornings a week. seems boring.

dh wants to take the money and put it into more fun classes for him and add horseback riding.(that is what josh is dying to do)

he has so many years of that same setting day in and day out.
and the thought of him picking up habits from other kids makes me Chat Icon i wanted to hold off as much as possible.

Re: What age did you start sending your DC to school?

DS's birthday is in September, so he was exactly the age stated below when he started (will start) each program.

Age 1 - Mommy & Me. 1x per week, 1-1/2 hours structured class (open play, circle time, snack, dance/music)

Age 2 - Separation Class - 2x per week, 1-1/2 hours. 6 children

Age 3 - Nursery School - 4x per week, 2 hours per day. 14 children

Age 4 - Pre K - 3x per week, 3 hours per day. 15 kids.

* He is currently in the 3 yr old program 4 days, 2 hours a day. I would much rather him go 3x per week. He doesn;t mind it, but I do. It's a big comitment each week and for very little time per day. I wish it was 3 days, 3 hours.

Re: What age did you start sending your DC to school?

DD started preschool at age 3. she went for 2 days a week 2.5 hrs a day. At 4 she is doing 3 days a week for 2.5 hrs a day. I didnt think age 2 was necessary - they are so little at that point.

Re: What age did you start sending your DC to school?

I am hoping to find a 2 year old program that DS can start this fall (his birthday is 11/25 so it's about making the cut off dates).

He already goes to Daycare, so it's not really that different for him. We are going to be pulling him out of daycare in favor of a nanny when DS #2 is born, so I want him to still have that social interaction with other kids.
