What age for elf on the shelf?
I just heard about this! It sounds SO cute. My granddaughter just turned 1 and I'm thinking about getting it for her even though she wont understand it now, she'll have it for years to come. They also just came out with a short movie about the Elf on the Shelf. It was released today. Are there different elves to choose from or do they all look the same?

My kids did not understand the elf until 3 years old.
As far as I know, and have seen- there is only one elf.

there is only one elf but they sell a skirt so you can make yours a girl elf if you want

We just got a stuffed elf from Amazon. It doesn't come with the book but we told ds that he's here to help Santa.
I think amazon had girl ones too.

I used a little Santa. I just call him Elf on the shelf! Kids don't know the difference

My 4 yr old got it last year at 3 yrs old..
and My DS who will be 3 in a month is just starting to get it..he didnt really get it last year at almost 2 yrs old!

I agree. DS is 2 & he already loves "Shelf" (the name he gave our elf). He looks for him in the morning & each night before bed one of the books we read is the Elf on the Shelf book that came with him.
You can get the set at any time. DH & I bought it long before DS was even a thought. It was nice to actually take him out this year.
Besides... the elf's magic doesn't start until your Granddaughter names him.
