What are the foods/drinks that are pretty $pricey$ but you HAVE to buy?
For me, it is plums.
When not on sale, they are like 3 dollars a lb, but I can't resist!
or fancy olives..yum!

Avocados and EVOO seem to be two that top my list and I don't skimp on.
Well, I kinda skimp on the EVOO. I usually buy a moderately priced bottle. 
I recently started buying local milk (believe it or not) and the bottle deposit is $1.50!!! I keep forgetting to bring the darn things back. That's steep, but it's so amazingly delicious! When I do bring them back, I'm gonna make some serious $$$ back!

Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. I have tried the lower cost versions .. but I swear there is a difference.
Saffron.. my rices and Spanish dishes suffer when I try to get away with using just a saffron added substitute.
REAL Vanilla extract. Artificially flavored vanilla is half the price but doesn't do the job. And if I am making panna cotta or the like (not often), I have to splurge for vanilla bean.
There's more.. but it's early and I can't think!

EVOO and Parmigiano cheese (imported).
Although, I go to my local Italian deli for the cheese, never the supermarket.

Although, I don't use it for cooking to much. So when I do buy it I enjoy it.

olives
olive oil
dried sausages
cheese
chocolate
D'Artagnan chorizo
salumi

Real parmesan, not the kraft crap. And the block so we grate what we need.

also some fruits like cherries, blueberries
some veggies like avocado..or other things a recipe may call for when not on sale.

Def real vanilla & tomatoes on the vine when I don't have my own from the garden. The other ones have no taste.
