What are you getting your 5-6 yo boy for the holidays?

Looking for ideas.

I am very lucky because he doesn't ask for much. We did his Santa list and he asked for just a few small inexpensive things.

I was thinking a big boy bike. He got one for his birthday a year and a half ago but I think he outgrew it. Not sure what size to get though.

Thoughts?

My da got a bike last year so he's good there. He will probably get a few board games, some books, and a couple of bigger toys. We haven't sat down to do his wish list yet so I'm not even sure what he wants. My older DS is 9 and that's even tougher. Chat Icon

If it was up to my son he'd get more Legos, but he has plenty so we're probably going to get him an electronic drum kit. My husband is a musician and we'd like for DS to be interested in music, too.

DS' birthday is today and we got him a kit that is an electronic board - you set up different configurations to make a bell sound, blow wind, etc. We're all about the learning toys. :)

That sounds cool. Would you mind sharing a link?

Maybe a couple of boardgames. My ds has asked for nothing so far & his bday is right after Christmas as well so I am really at a loss.

My little guy rarely asks for anything.

Magna-tiles, Magformers and Tinker toys. Probably a few more Lego sets. A remote control car.

Re: What are you getting your 5-6 yo boy for the holidays?

Thanks all.

I was thinking Magnatiles too because I have heard such good things about them but he's not asking for them and they're very expensive so I am not sure about that.

I guess I should just be grateful he is not asking for 5 million things!Chat Icon

They're snap circuits (I wasn't sure of the name). There are different kinds on Amazon.

I was at Barnes & Noble the other day and there are some cool science/electronic stuff for older kids.

I thought this was also kinda cool b/c my son seems to like maze stuff when he sees it:

Great post with some great ideas!

So far I'm really not sure. It's going to be a light Christmas. He favorites right now are Star Wars, Legos and Scooby Doo. He loves board games too.

We got him a bike last year, he had just turned 5. It's big enough that it'll last for a couple of years.

DS is getting a Wii U for his birthday so games/accessories to accompany that for the holidays (late November birthday).

I was also looking at this Amusement Park Engineer kit:

Re: What are you getting your 5-6 yo boy for the holidays?

I just did my Christmas shopping for both kids on amazon the other day. I am not doing a lot this year since they get enough throughout the year.

For DS he is getting

the megablocks minion castle
Alex Toys Artist Studio
Minion Bob
minion slippers
Hape Construction Crane
Harry Potter illustrated book that just came out
Some board games - Mouse Trap and Pie Face.
Leap Reader books

He got a bike last year and has yet to learn how to ride it. So this year I am getting him things that he has been asking for.

He is pretty much done - I just need to get some books and stocking items.

We have magnatiles - DS got them as gifts from MIL the last two Christmas' and he loves them. They are always played with. I don't think you will be wasting your money if you go with them.

Re: What are you getting your 5-6 yo boy for the holidays?

Mine are 4 & 6 -
I think I'm going to get the Mangatiles for as a shared gift. And a mommy gift b/c I love that kind of stuff.

My older one wants hockey gear, specifically goalie gear.
I'm not spending on goalie gear what I spend on his normal ice hockey stuff - so I got him a Franklin Sports package of pads and gloves to street hockey, and a goalie stick (again, inexpensive) -
he can wear them to play and skate - but they are not top of the line - I got him some new Islander gear (new black jersey), a lego equivalent (OYO or something?) Islander ice rink with the players, books,

The little one wants a bow and arrow (god help me, it's the only thing he asked for Chat Icon )
So I'm looking into the least disasterous option.
I got him some Miles from Tomorrowland & Paw Patrol things - not much yet.

I am looking for things like a microscope, telescope, science kit type of things - 6.5 y/o loves anything science and math related

Little guys likes that stuff too, but he's the artist - so I got him a bunch of new supplies - stencils, those funky stencils that make the designs w/ colored pens ......?? can't think of what they are called.

DH has the PS4 or Xbox4 or whatever one you automatically download the games to .........so he does that . I try very hard to get thme 'non scrren related' things

MOTHER EFFRES sent me the Jersey Devils instead of the Islanders !!!

I was at the rink w/ my son for his game yesterday, and the pro-shop has it too - but there it's $35. I think I paid $23, w/ shipping.
