What are you gym pet peeves?

I'll start

1.) when a woman is working out with a full face of make up on. I always because what happens when she sweats?

2.) I understand that when you take pilates you do not need to wear socks but I think it is odd to come to the gym in 4 inch heals wearing capri leggings and a tunic to take the class. Not to mention her hair and makeup were done.

3.) People sipping Dunkin Donuts while waiting for a class or before a quick train session and then leaves it on the side

I just find these things annoying...add yours

talking on a cell phone while sitting on a machine, either use it or get your @ss off it it's not a couch

guys that grunt and groan when they are lifting like 50lbs

the old men that wear short track shorts and do a machine that is in your direct line of vision, talk about a NASTEE visual

Not wiping down the machine you use

Talking on the cell phone

Leaving your gym bag on other machines

Putting on perfume/cologne before going to the gym. WHY?!?!! perfume + BO don't mix well.

I also can't stand talking on the cell phone while on machines.

How about talking on the cell phone while taking a class. I just find it so rude.

I have to say, I belong to a mixed gym (guys & girls) and the all the guys seem pretty normal.

2). Lockers used as storage all week.
3). Overweight Trainers
4). Cougars trying to hook up, thinking the gym is a social club...

I have soooo many..
1. Women with a full face of makeup on (as you said) !! I don't get it
2. Women who wear push up bras!!!! I mean come on..I wear a sports bra and I thought most people would do this. Why wear something thats pushing them up when you work out?!?! even regular bras for that matter..I don't get it?!?!
3. When people don't wipe down the machines..Just stop being lazy.its gross not to and its proper gym etiquette.
4. People staring while you lift weights
5. Women getting all dolled up to work out..I mean the whole nine yards...hair down, makeup, non workout clothing..etc etc etc..your at a gym to work out..its not a meat market for gods sake!!
6. talking on cell phones
7. perfume!!! thats bothers me also!!!

Ok I have one... there is a huge sign about things being stolen in the locker room.. my gym GIVES YOU locker card to lock up your stuff ( and you gym card does it as well) and yet i go into the locker romm and about 1 in 4 lockers have stuff in it NOT LOCKED!!!! i feel that you get what you deserve!

Why woman have to hang out and chat Naked with my 5 yo daughter is in there changing from her swimming class...( she did ask my quietly why the ladies boobs were at her waist!! )

I really hate being watched while I'm at the gym.


I know I'm not a gym buff girl, I go in and out with my routine. I got through phases of going A LOT and then being a lazy a$$ lol. When I get starred at, I feel SOOOOOOOOOOO self conscious because I feel like maybe I'm not using the machine properly or something.

I also hate when someone goes on the tredmill next to me and in a few minutes, they end up going a further distance than me even though I was on longer. It makes me feel like my workout is inadequate.

1) guys that act like they're pumping 5x their body weight, meanwhile they are in jeans and after 2 reps they stop and act like their winded from pushing so hard

2)people that hog machines

3) people that come and go during a class, step out to take a call or just come like 20 mins late and disrupt the flow of a class

4) when guys hit on girls... it's a gym, not a nightclub.

B.O. I'm a morning worker-outer and alot of the men at my gym seem to not notice that they have bad B.O. from the day before. They even have workout buddies that I can't IMAGINE can't smell it and say something.

Also turning off the fans so that they sweat more. It gets hot as he!l in my gym and I like the fan on to help keep things cool. You DON'T burn more fat sweating more people, let's get some nice ventilation going!

Reading all of these posts makes me appreciate my gym a LOT. I've experienced a lot of the rudeness posted above at NYC gyms, but since joining 24 Hour Fitness in my area in NJ, I've experienced them very little. The gym and locker rooms are super-clean, people do actually wipe down the equipment, and the trainers are cool.

As for make-up-wearing/push-up bra wearing women, I couldn't care less! I am there to work out, not pay attention to who has makeup and push up bras on. It has zero impact on my workout, so what do I care if the person on the machine next to me is in full face?

My only one is the perfume/cologne. Or really fragrant coffee, I just don’t like ‘scents’ when I am working out.

As for the makeup, I usually go in the morning, which means, no makeup... BUT I have gone straight from work on occasion so I have makeup on from the day. I have even forgotten a hair tie, so do people think I am there trying to pick up a guy because I came straight from work so I have makeup on & my hair is down?

I hope your not referring to my post..because I wasn't trying to offend anyone. Usually you can tell the difference between someone who has just gotten out of work..So I know what you mean..I have totally done that before also! But I'm talking about the people with fresh makeup on (the kind where you can tell they just put it on) and wearing skimpy little club clothes to the gym (trust me I've seen it! lol) those are the people that get to me! lol I don't get it

Nope, not referring to any one post - there are a bunch of responses saying the same thing about makeup.

I totally know what everyone's saying, you can usually tell who is there to 'see and be seen' and who is there to workout, but at the same time, it is not a pet peeve of mine because it doesn't affect me or my workout in any way, unlike the perfume thing which has caused me to have to move or stop what I am doing.

I like those skimpy/makeup on/club clothes women because they entertain me with their antics while I workout

I couldnt agree with you more on #1!!! Hate that! I cannot understand why so many people shower at my gym, go home and shower!!!!

I shower at the gym - I go to the gym before work (I belong to a gym near work - my house is 35 mins away), want me to be stinky at work

but I am always covered up, and I change in the changing stalls they have, if that helps!
