What are your thoughts on children who hit & tips on handling?

Is it learned? Is it something they just do?

we don't hit our kids, but this week my 3 year old has been hitting when she gets over excited or during a tantrum.
she said the kids at gymnastics do, BUT I never saw that happen. Then she said grandpa did, so I am wondering what to believe.

Also any tips on handling teaching not to use your hands and how to handle emotions?

We do not hit either, I think kids just lash out.

DD goes in time out for hitting. It's automatic now and doesn't happen very often.

Oh absolutely! Timeouts have been very effective! She hates them, gives us all a moment to calm down, and she realizes we are serious and not happy about the action!

I think that's all you can do and then just remind her afterwards that we keep our hands to ourselves.
