I prefer the lighter also. My SIL has black and she is constanly cleaning it because you see the dust almost immediately.
We had Madre Gold which is similiar to the large slab that was posted already.

I have a cherry stain on my cabinets (not as dark as your though, T) and Black Galaxy granite. I LOVE black granite. To be honest, I've always wiped down and cleaned my counters every day (I cook every day) no matter what type of counter I had so it's not anymore work to have black. My MIL has a very busy pattern and half the time she doesn't see the gunk on her counters I also went with black because I have black appliances... I'm not a fan of ss.
ETA: Have you seen Uba-tuba... it has flecks of green and blue in it.
Best thing to do is bring a swatch of your cabinets and tile to the granite showroom.

Why does everyone say black is a pain to clean? Do you clean it different?
I clean my granite counters everyday and polish once a year....

I LOVE Uba Tuba granite. It's so pretty!
People say black granite is harder to keep clean because you can see the fingerprints and dust more quickly - no other special reason.

Ours is new venetian gold and it has a bit of slate gray in it that your floor could easily bring out.

It not that it gets dirty easier but you see the dust easier. I had a black stove top at my last house and after I clean it, within an hour or so it just looked dusty and not as clean. I think that is what people are referring to.

I have cherry cabinets with dark granite and light hardwood floors (no backsplash yet). I like dark granite better with cherry cabinets. We have Dakota Mahogany. I can post picture of actual kitchen tonight.
