What did you buy new when you bought your house?
We will hopefully be buying a house in the spring/summer.
We have had our co-op for 9 years, married for 10. So our stuff is not exactly new.
I'm trying to save money and gift cards so that when we finally do buy, we can start with fresh stuff.
So far, I have down new towels, dish towels, pot holders, a new broom, a new mop.
What else would you or did you buy new?

If you're just talking about bed/bath kind of stuff, we bought A LOT. I think we spent somewhere around $600 at BBB, and that's with using a 20% off everything coupon. We filled 2 entire carts, like they were overflowing filled.

Re: What did you buy new when you bought your house?
Not a lot at first because we are renovating. As we complete stuff I buy new things. After our first bathroom was done I got all new towels and new bathroom accessories. Now were onto the kitchen I'm getting all new appliances, I want new dishes since we will have some glass cabinets and my old dishes are now 8 years old and my style has changed.

We were also renovating when we moved in so we didn't buy much immediately. Within a few months we bought some furniture because we went for a 2 bedroom townhouse to a five bedroom single family. I did buy a new vacuum and a bunch of decorative stuff for our kitchen right away. OP your list so far sounds really reasonable.

Re: What did you buy new when you bought your house?
I didn't buy too many linens. I had to buy:
Window treatments and lots of them! Curtains, rods, blinds - it all adds up to be a lot!
Bathroom accessories for the 2 additional bathrooms - shower curtains, trash cans, etc.
Furniture. That's our biggest thing.
TV
New fireplace tools New toilet seats
We will be needing a hot water heater and a new electrical panel this spring.

We bought so much stuff, but mostly furniture and electronics/appliances. We were moving from a 1BR apartment to a 3BR house -- our house has a living room, den, dining room, office, etc. The only thing in our apartment was a kitchen, bathroom, living room, and bedroom. We also had to purchase blinds/curtain rods/curtains/etc. for all the windows in the house, additional TV's, and updated the washer/dryer since they were incredibly small and outdated.

Re: What did you buy new when you bought your house?
I'm actually making up a huge basket of things for a family member who will be a new homeowner moving from a condo to a house this month. So far I've bought a plunger (glamorous huh lol), a toilet bowl scrubber, Meyer's cleaning products and soaps, etc. a co detector, dish cloths, gorilla glue, and drawer organizers. I have been to two stores looking for the hercules hooks, but neither had them. Any other ideas for things I can put in the basket?

Re: What did you buy new when you bought your house?
We re-wired the whole house so that took up all the money we had, but we did buy new light fixtures for the elections to install while they were rewiring.

Re: What did you buy new when you bought your house?
Firstly, congrats and good luck! Honestly, even keeping all that stuff you mentioned (we were married 4 years when moving from Co-op to house so everything was new enough to not replace), we spent thousands on new things needed. I'd strongly recommend not getting rid of anything (other than decluttering) until you are settled and see where your funds are. To give you an idea (and these were working within a strict budget...)
-wood floors refinished - 2k - painter and materials - 5k -new appliances - 3k -new lamps, light fixtures, light bulbs - few hundred -refresh cabinet hardware - 100 -garbage cans - 100 -tools (b/c there's no super anymore!) - 400
I could go on and on and on, even with random repairs, electrical upgrades, etc. that hit a few thousand more. I guess my point is - it was nice to not have to worry about going out and spending money on sheets and towels and things that I already had. Sure, I may get new ones now that my bathroom is gray and no longer beige/brown, but my wallet is happy I can wait awhile!

Re: What did you buy new when you bought your house?
We were lucky and previous owners left us a few things and we borrowed a bit from my dad
Things we needed Tool set Ladder and step ladder Garbage bins Grill Drill Snow shovel We still need a snow blower Rake Power washer
I did upgrade our towels and linens and kept some old as spare/rags
Furniture! Rugs Lamps Throw pillows Wall art/decor
Organizers for new cabinets/closets
Stick vacuum
Basically I spend a lot at Home Depot, home goods, amazon, bed bath, and overstock!

Re: What did you buy new when you bought your house?
We moved from a 1br apt that we lived in for 7 years to a 3 br house. We bought:
Dining room set Lawnmower Patio set Just bought a snowblower this year (in our house 5 yrs) Gardening tools Outdoor Christmas/Easter decorations and more for the inside of the house-more space now Washer/dryer (the one that came with the house died a month after we moved in) Garbage cans Bbq
The list goes on and on. When we first moved in we felt like we needed everything. Every time we turned to do something (i.e rake the leaves), we were like damn off to store (to buy a rake or whatever). This went on for awhile before we started to feel settled
