What dishwasher soap do you use?

We haven't had a dishwasher in years. Although we only plan on using it when we're entertaining, we don't have any soap.

What do you use? Is liquid better than powder? Any pros/cons of each?

I use Eectrosol Tabs or gelpacs. I like that I can just pop it in and there's no mess or anything like you get with liquids or powders.

I use seventh generation non toxic gel & I add borax to boost it.

I use Cascade liquid detergent. We get it at Costco.

I've been using the Electrasol powerball tabs. We got a coupon with out new dishwasher, so I bought them. Less mess than with the liquid or powder. They work well, too.

I don't put much stock into the "best" dishwasher detergent. Honestly, I'd go with whatever.. type you wind up liking (powder, liquid, or tabs) and within that, go with what's on sale.

Kirkland from Costco. It is the cheapest and works very well.

hey greenfreak.... if you get an energy star washer, it actually will use much less water / energy than handwashing.... not to mention its sooo much easier, and the dishes come out amazingly clean. you might want to use it more often

I use cascade with shineshield (regular cascade), but am considering trying 7th generation.....

I buy the huge box of Cascade at BJ's. I think it's $8 for 200 oz. we run it every other day and that 1 box lasts forever! I think I got the box we're using now sometime in the Spring and there is still plenty left.

Cascade Complete (w/o citrus) from Costco.

I considered the tabs, but messiness isn't an issue for us because we only have to fill the dispenser up once every couple of months (the dishwasher has some "smart dispense" system and adjusts the amount of soap depending on how dirty the water is.)

Only disadvantage to the "smart dispense" system is that I can't just switch from one detergent to another. I have to know whether it has enzymes in it or not and be consistent with the detergent.

We use both - honestly whatever is on sale.

We tried using the tablets, but we found that either the dishes weren't fully washed, or a portion of the tablet was left at the bottom of the D/W.

We also put jetdry into the D/W to keep the dishes sparkly and shiny.

Ours came with a few Electrasol tablets.

But at BJ's I bought a container of the Cascade gel caps.

I used to use Dawn gel caps but found these.

Cascade Tabs with Dawn. Love them, so easy and everything comes out spotless

we use cascade liquid. i remember reading a consumer reports article that ranked cascade the highest.
