What do you do if your newborn breaks out of the swaddle?
My DD has a habit of getting her hands up and out of the Swaddle Me. If she isn't crying but is squirming, should I go in and rewrap her. We never know what to do. What do you do?

I don't reswaddle unless he is crying. We're waiting for him to *tell* us he is done with it. Last night he broke out around 4:30, but we just gave him the binky and that did it. He is 4.5 months old!

Re: What do you do if your newborn breaks out of the swaddle?
Are you making it tight enough or is the swaddle is too big? At the very end before we switched to a sleep sack, when my DD was so active that she would force her hands up, I would quietly open the swaddle, straighten her arms back at her sides and quickly reswaddle tightly. I just made sure that her hands were tucked in to the bottom part of the swaddleme. I would make sure that I didn't speak to DD and would reswaddle quickly. My suggestion would be that if she keeps wiggling out of the swaddle or moving her hands around after swaddling tightly, move to a sleep sack. I hope it works for you.

Re: What do you do if your newborn breaks out of the swaddle?
My DD HATED having her arms swaddled by her side, so we let her dictate how we swaddled her with her arms. As she got a little older, she didn't like having her arms swaddled at alll, and would spend a good 30 minutes once we put her down getting her arms out. It seemed she like to fall asleep by rubbing the back of her head with one hand and her cheek with the other, so now we swaddle her from the armpits down (she likes to be wrapped tightly this way), and she's asleep within minutes of us putting her down. She now likes to sleep with her arms above her head.
She's just about 4 months

When DD was just 5 days old she was already breaking out of her swaddle. I checked on her during her nap and the blanket was over her head! From that point on, I just swaddled her from her chest down and left her arms out. She likes it much better.

I swaddle with the arms out. But, I use a blanket becuase I can't remember how to use the swaddler and I lost the instructions! I have to figure that thing out!

I stopped swaddling her b/c of that, DD always wanted her arms free, so why bother. She never cared for the swaddle

Same here... I have pics of DS a few minutes old with his hands out of the swaddle and you know how tight the nurses do it in the hospital...he would find a way to get out. We use the sleep sack at night and that seems to work.

Re: What do you do if your newborn breaks out of the swaddle?
I swaddled her, with her hands out, until yesterday.. she is 7 weeks.. I had to stop because she moves around so much, and I found her with all of the swaddle broken open except where the top of the swaddle crosses over.. and that was around her neck... that was a sign to stop swaddling...
