What do you make of this situation & WWYD...sort of "house" related and LONG...
I've been living in my house for exactly four years now, but a SAHM for 2.5 years and in those past years had a chance--I guess--to notice the comings and goings on the block...
We live on a very quiet block whose cross-street is a park. There is parking aplenty--most of us park in our driveways and the rest are at work during the day. I'm not sure if that information is necessary but anyway...
Almost directly across the street from me--in between two houses which aren't separated by a driveway (in other words, sort of a no man's land of grass)--random cars (but only one at any given time) park several times a week for as little as five minutes or as long as an hour. It's always the exact same spot. Usually it's a man and a woman, but sometimes just one person
Once I started noticing this I brought it up to my DH who blew it off saying "Maybe it's someone reading the paper or eating lunch in between appts. or whatever..." Meanwhile there's a park they could enter or park alongside of... I didn't buy it... And in the last 2.5 years it's increasingly driving me mental!
Someone almost broke into our house in July (broke window; set off alarm; ran away...) and I brought this up to the police investigating. They told me to call 911 the next time I saw it, but of course, the two times I called, they people drove off before the cops got there. I must look like a weirdo and I don't feel comfortable calling 911 frequently with no "emergency."
What the hell is going on and WWYD???

Drugs. go to the local precinct, tell them what you see .. all of it, including your break in and see what happens.
i had drug activity on both the blocks i lived on. one day i couldn't take it anymore when it was going on at three oclock in the afternoon with the babysitter at my house. not cool.
i went to the precinct, they got the narcotics guy out to talk to me immediately. he asked great questions and seemed really interested. i left there thinking they were actually going to do something... then the neighbor moved, then so did i...
ETA: OH! get license plates too.

you can call your local precient and tell them the that your house was almost broken into and that the officers that came to scene told you to call.
More then likly though, it probably is someone doing just what your husband says. but you could write doen the plate number and maybe keep track of what times they come. maybe it will make you feel better if you see its the same times on the same days every week.

Sounds like drugs to me. One time I had a man and woman park in front of our "no man's land" grass and I could see down into their car since I was upstairs. They were rolling a joint. I told DH and he went outside-walked up to the front of the car and wrote down their plate #. They drove off. I would never do that alone, but I am glad he did it (but he is 6'8 and a big guy).
I am very aware of unknown cars parked on my block near my house. If I saw a pattern like you are seeing I would def call the local precinct and tell them. If people want to do illegal drugs and kill themselves-don't do it on my block near my kids!

I'm so naive, i didn't even think drugs. I automatically thought, oh they must be having lunch.

i would think something along the lines of drugs/prostitution....
go back to the police, with the license plate # and bring a few pics of the car on different days to show them.....
i dont know, it sounds very fishy to me! if it were someone taking a break from work why wouldn't they park in the park down the road?? something seems off...

We had a similar problem in my old neighborhood. There was a cul-de-sac at the end of the block and an area of just trees where cars would back in and park for as little as 5 min or say awhile. One neighbor actually found people sleeping in the car once!
Anyway, it was always different cars, different times, and different people. You could clearly see sometimes that it was people making out, when other times it was people smoking up or doing whatever else. Neighbors called the cops but nothing was ever really done, except they stepped up patrol of the block. I mean there was never any harm done to the neighbors except the inconvienence and the fact that your block was known as the make out spot or place to get high.
I would definitely call the cops every time they come by so that its on record how frequently these people are there, especially after the attempted break in. Maybe the cops can step up the patrol in your area.

Maybe they are having an affair or doing pot? I do think it would be odd that someone would park down your block considering how much parking is around there. Maybe go for a walk and get their license plate number and give that to the cops. Have you asked any of the other neighbors? Also, I just have to tell you that I am so jealous that you live so close to that park.

Re: What do you make of this situation & WWYD...sort of "house" related and LONG...
Thanks everyone!
I think I'm going to take the suggestion of writing down the plate numbers...maybe I'll create a little log of times, etc.
My first instinct was people cheating or prostitution. I would really be surprised if it had anything to do with drugs. But then again, I've been known to be pretty naive to things like that...
I guess it's more irritating than anything else. It's like these people have a secret society and my block is their rendezvous point. Hey, I could use a little excitement...maybe I'll join them.
