Re: What do you think about DVD players in cars for your DC?
No we don't have one or plan to get one
We are bringing a portable one to Jamaica with us next week though, because of the plane ride and layover...

Re: What do you think about DVD players in cars for your DC?
DD is only 12 weeks so it is really a non-issue but I am not allowing TV for her so it will be a non-issue for the car. My brother and I managed very well without television in the car and so will DD.

we have used it for long car rides, etc. but we don't use it every day.
but I don't see the harm in using it every day either.

Re: What do you think about DVD players in cars for your DC?
I actually saw parents of I want to say a two year old bring the DVD player out to dinner to keep a child occupied. The kid was watching it at the dinner table I am really on th fence, but I am thinking for when Mia is older for long rides I may consider it.

i wont allow it!!!
I feel the exact same way. I drove by myself with my two boys to Florida and we didn't even use one then. After the car ride my 4 year old even said to me, "See mommy we don't need all those other things we had good conversation".

Re: What do you think about DVD players in cars for your DC?
DD has never watched TV in the car. Unless we're driving to Florida or a long road trip I see no purpose, because I'm sure everytime we're in the car I'd be getting requests to put something on.

I have one.
Logan knows the rule is only long drives.
I define long drives as an hour plus.
Same here. I'm glad I have it but we don't abuse it

Re: What do you think about DVD players in cars for your DC?
DS has one for long car rides. we don't use it for any local drives ever.
i see nothing wrong with it. we will not, however, be bringing it to dinner or anywhere else. it is for the car only. i had my walkman back in the day to keep me occupied and i don't really see a difference

Re: What do you think about DVD players in cars for your DC?
We have one. Love it. My sister lives in NJ (about 2 and a half hours away) and we visit her at least once a month. The DVD player keeps us all sane, including DS.
We very rarely use it on short trips, unless I need to keep him up. We are down to 1 nap a day, and I will be darned if it isn't at home.

Re: What do you think about DVD players in cars for your DC?
I'm a never. And DH and I are on the same page.
Just don't see the point in it, since we rarely take long drives. And when we do, they are no longer than say 5 hours (or else we fly) and I have a million other things they can do to occupy their time rather than watch a movie/show (they watch enough TV at home).

Re: What do you think about DVD players in cars for your DC?
We have a portable one for Rylan. He got it for Xmas and has used it about 3 times. I have no problem with them but I just don't want him to demand it which is why he hardly uses it. If it was built in i'm sure he would use it more because it would be in his face at all times.

Re: What do you think about DVD players in cars for your DC?
We bought one last month when we drove to NY from NC. 12 hours in the car with a 16 month-old? It SAVED OUR LIFE.
My DD is VERY good in the car. If we're going anywhere locally, she is perfectly happy to sit back with her hands behind her head and her legs crossed . If she starts to get fussy, we put her Music Together CD on and she absolutely loves that.
However, even though we own a DVD player for the car, I will say that I have a HUGE problem with people who put the DVD player (or TV) on for trips to the supermarket, etc. etc. Every time we're driving behind one of those cars, I say to my DH, "Watch, that kid's going to wind up in my class, and Mom and Dad are going to wonder why he/she can't pay attention to a 10-minute lesson." I truly believe that if used every day, it shortens a child's attention span for anything that's not fully "engaging". To each his own, but I think that kids need to have practice in just sitting and doing nothing in the car. Look out the window, look at a book. Listen to music. I think it builds character.
ETA: We haven't used our DVD player since our trip back from NY. It will stay tucked away until our next long car trip. Long for me would have to be at least 2 hours.

I voted Yes, all the time -- my car has them built in. I do not think its appropriate for babies though, My girls are 2.5 and 5. I enjoy the opportunity for a whine free drive and listening to them sing along is priceless.

Re: What do you think about DVD players in cars for your DC?
I don't have one but I could definitley use a car dvd and I won't be getting one anytime soon. I need to make a new cd with songs b/c they're bored with their old cd's.
My 2 and 3 year old are HORRIBLE in the car. They always have been. they are only content when they are sleeping. When they are up, it's a million questions, a million complaints, who scutching who. They really aren't good in the car. My oldest nevr made a peep in the car and qat 10 years old she is the same way. She's awesome in the car.
I'm not against a dvd but since we don't have one I guess it's good that they don't rely on it!

Re: What do you think about DVD players in cars for your DC?
We don't have one now, but it is one of my must have's for the next car purchase at the end of the year!
And honestly, it amazes me how many people are opposed to TV watching for their kids in general. My son has been watching tv since he was a small infant for max 45 min to 1 hour each day. I must tell you, that imho, he has learned to count, his shapes and many worrds from shows like Diego and Dora. It also helps him to relax after a very active day at daycare. As long as you dont use the TV as a babysitter, why not?
carry on!!!

I say... you do what works for your child and family.
My new car with one. I used it 2 times. I don't use it for our errands.
I have used it to calm DS down while waiting for DS' train to come when we picked him up. He was having a temper trantrum and wanted out of his carseat.

Re: What do you think about DVD players in cars for your DC?
I wouldn't want one for everyday. My DD is way too young at this point anyway, but when she's older we would use it for long trips only.

We are looking to buy one now (with dual screens for both boys) but it would only be used for long car trips.

Re: What do you think about DVD players in cars for your DC?
We don't have one. My DS doesn't have an issue with long car trips. He usually falls alseep. My 9 month old does not watch TV and I do not see a need for it either.

Re: What do you think about DVD players in cars for your DC?
We used it more when he was younger for long trips. My in laws live in Staten Island, and sometimes when we hit traffic, it becomes a really long ride for him.
I think it's great in difficult situations.

Don't have one, don't plan on ever buying one and I do road trips solo with DD (4+ hours) several times a year, and we took her to NC last year (12+ hours).

Re: What do you think about DVD players in cars for your DC?
We had a large screen installed in the rear of the truck (more for our enjoyment than the kids. We also have a small screen in the front, but it's on nav when driving.) The tv is a godsend, especially when you're not actually traveling, but sitting in a car somewhere for 30 minutes to an hour or more.
My DD (soon to be 4) has always been an easy traveler. I can't say the same for my DS (2). My DD is more likely to question me on what town we're in?, where are we going?, are we turning left, right or straight?, etc.. I actually find myself saying "Why don't you watch some tv?"

ditto, I say for long car trips and that is it.
