I don't think there is a normal count. It depends on the size of the family, budget, etc.
We have 21 people in our family. We had that plus a few cousins & close friends.

We are having a huge (by some people's consideration, not too big by others ) luncheon for about 100 people, including about 35 kids. I have been to other that were MUCH bigger and others that were small, about 10 - 15 people. So, there is no such thing as normal

I think we are having around 30 adults and 10 kids. I think that is more than I can handle for a home party.

We're having a brunch at a restaurant and our invites are like 88 adults and 12 kids.
