What else can we do for severe back/hip pain?
I am going to the chiro at 5, so they will hear me moan, but I am wondering if I should see an orthopedist as well or mention this to the OB tomorrow-
I have a badly herniated disc. The chiro was helping up until mid last week. The pain is getting so intense that I am losing my appetite. It is almost impossible to sleep. It radiates up my back and my spine and burns badly. I am walking for exercise, but no deal. Tyenol is useless and I don't want to take it if it doesn't help.
I have a long commute (1 hour each way) and I work 8-9 hours straight without lunch. I try to get up and walk but the pain is getting intense.
Do any of you ladies have anything like this? It is not sciatica, which was confirmed in the ER at 11 weeks. I am considering contacting my pain management in NY. I am so upset and sick over the pain.

mich - you should speak to a physiatrist...
the one i was going to for my issues before i got PG said that she typically doesn't do lumbar epidurals on pregnant women... she actually spoke with my RE who said that there's no medical reason NOT to - they just don't like to do anything to a woman who is PG.. KWIM? but she said she would be okay with if if the pain was so intense that i was considering it... if that makes sense.

Re: What else can we do for severe back/hip pain?
im not in your position yetttt so i dont have any great advice but will gladly take yours once you figure out what to do!
I have kind of a similar problem with my very lower back (my disks are close together from an accident). and im already starting to get pain.
whats worked in the past for me was just rubbing where the pain was and not sitting or being in one position for too long (which i know is hard with work/commuting).
can u change positions/walk around during your commute?
also, my dr gave me a sheet of exercises that i should be doing. does your chiro have anything like this?

I did 2 lumbar epidurals right before we got PG... and that helped TREMENDOUSLY. I don't have any shooting pains into my legs anymore. I still have lots of back pain that's now upper and lower back. It's uncomfortable to sit for long periods (which is part of my job!) and finding comfortable positions for watching tv hasn't been easy either... but I've been managing! So far (knock on wood) it hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be....
In the peak of my problems, I was literally in pain for probably 90% of my waking time... at like an 8.5 on a scale of 1-10.. so as long as I don't get back to that place, I consider myself okay!

Yes, I do them and they don't help The problem is (I think) that my is laying on my back where the disc is. I had flutters (once again, I think) in the front at the exact level of the disc.

Good!
I am really trying chiro, massage, and walking. I just want to puke and cry from the pain.

Re: What else can we do for severe back/hip pain?
I have a few herniated discs in my back and I get pretty bad back pain too. I always did though, from when I was in an accident about 8 years ago. There really isn't anything to do..I typically have DH rub it for me and use a heating pad. It's not really making it any better right now. Sitting and sleeping are pretty uncomfortable. I'm only 13 weeks, so I am not looking forward at what is to come!
to my fellow back pain sufferers!
