what exactly happens at the NT scan?
How is this different than a sonogram? I know the reason behind it is to look more closely at body parts to look at possilble genetic issues etc . but what else goes on? I'm just wondering especially bc I don't think DH can come so I'm wondering if I should bring someone else or really try to get him to go or if I'm just fine on my own. .
any thoughts?
TIA!

You get to see the baby A LOT!
They do a lot of measuring and different angles on the sonogram. It was both internal and external. They also drew a vial of blood and tested my urine.
I think you are ok on your own, unless you have bad pregnancy brain and forget everything. Yes, that would be me.
She also woke the baby up to see its movement. The baby was p issed.

Re: what exactly happens at the NT scan?
I actually didn't get to see my baby alot-kind of a bummer..the sono tech seemed to be in a rush to go to lunch (whatevs!)
They do a sono and take specific measurements around neck, they take blood by either pricking your finger or doing it the needle way.
You get the results a week or so later.
It is thrilling because it's the first time you see your baby looking like a baby, and not a dot

Re: what exactly happens at the NT scan?
They just did a 10-minute, external sono for me. (I've heard other peoples' have been really long, but ours wasn't.) The baby was moving around a ton, doing little flips in my belly, which was super cute. Took a lot of measurements, especially of the back of the neck. Then they took a vial of blood.
It really was just another chance to see the baby. Nothing special happened then. When I went in for my 12-week appointment a week later, the OB went over the results with me.
