What is a good camera?
I'm looking for a good camera but something less than $500. We have a Canon Zoom lens but the camera that we bought it for crapped out.

i think a lot of people on here have the Nikon DF40 or 60...I am eyeing it myself

If you already have a canon lens you should get a canon slr so you can continue to use it. You can buy just the body (without the crappy kit lens) for less money. I have the original digital rebel and I love it. I really see no need to upgrade, but I'm sure any of the newer models are even better.
