What is an invention you'd like to see invented?
What are two invention you'd wish someone would invent to make your life easier or better? One is (somewhat) realistic, and the other can ignore current rules of physics or capabilities.
Realistic invention: real-time blood sugar monitor. There used to be a watch that used perspiration to display blood sugar levels every 15 minutes or so, but it's not made anymore. I would love a gadget, like a watch, that I could just put on, and it would immediately give me real-time numbers.
Fantasy: Transporter, like in Star Trek. It would take 10 seconds or so to go to any point in the world. You could eat breakfast in Paris, lunch in Singapore, and dinner in Las Vegas.

Traffic controlled roads - take driver error out by maintaining specific safe distance from the vehicle in front of you, diverts traffic based on destination and conditions ahead. To reduce needless death and destruction on the road caused by various hazards, distracted drivers, drunk drivers and poorly designed roads. While manual control is still allowed its limited by the condition of the driver, roads and traffic invovled. Saftey protocols would kick in when ever a danger was present.

a self cleaning house for my fantasy. A few years ago I remember reading about a stove that would be a refrigerator to hold food and then cook it so that when you came home dinner was ready. I would want one of those.

Real: A machine that will eliminate cancer. I envision it to look like an MRI machine and every year you lay down or walk through it and it kills any cancer cells that are currently growing in any part of your body. Oh and it has to work for animals too.
Fantasy: As silly as this sounds, I want to be able to talk to my dogs. I am pretty positive my bulldog has some important things on her mind. I would love for someone to invent a communication device for animals.

Fantasy - I like the Transporter idea. I would go to Sydney Australia and have Sunday dinner with my cousins...

Fantasy - I agree with you. I would love to be able to talk to my dog (and my cats). When I'm feeling a little low, a cat will come over to me and sit on my lap (or next to me). I would love to know what they are thinking.

The transporter device sounds great! Sounds like the one in Thor. Imagine no more traffic jams!
Here's mine:
Real: a crime predicting device like what they have in Person of Interest. (this one sounds fantastical but who knows?)
Fantasy: A supersuit like what the Ironman has that allows me to fly and fight crime. :D

Push a button and a slot opens up and sucks all the dust up automatically eliminating the need to dust.

I hate that sometimes I forget it's in the washer for a couple hours (have a toddler) or need to run out (i never leave the dryer on if I'm not home) and then have to wash everything again bc I forgot to put it in the dryer.
Fantasy: I wish there was "something" that would make it so that whenever I saw someone wearing something I thought was really nice, I could somehow immediately not only own it but it would fit too!

Wow! But, I'm not sure I'd trust one machine that can do both (well, at least not yet).
In my mind I envision 2 machines that are attached and some sort of sliding door that opens and a mechanism that pushes all the clothes into the dryer and then the door closes.
At least it looks like this might become a reality in my lifetime.
GoldenRod, any luck on finding out whether my fantasy one might come true
ETA: Actually, the reviews on the combo units are pretty good. DH got me a cherry red LG steam washer and dryer 2 yrs ago but maybe my next machine can be something like this.

bunk bed planes-I would be so much more comfortable if I had the ability to lie down in coach (can't afford business/first class). I know that take-off, landing, and turbulence requires us to have our seats in upright position but there has to be a way to strap us in.
a mesh blanket for the lawn that all the leaves will fall onto--When most of the leaves have fallen, the mesh will lift up (not sure how) and all the leaves will be gone! These huge mesh bags filled with leaves will then get picked up by the mesh bag collector crew

I used to have one of those LG combo units but didn't bring it with me when I moved house. It worked great but takes awhile to do laundry and my clothes came out wrinklier than I would have liked. It also can take 5-6 hours to wash and dry.

Fantasy: A 100% accurate lie detector, maybe something that read someones thoughts. To be used only for criminal stuff...eliminating the need for false accusations or suspects being freed that are actually guilty. It would make horrible, long and drawn out cases non existent. Scott Peterson, OJ etc...

I thought of this when I was younger! Sort of like an enclosed laundry basket (like a circular enclosure with large holes is what I invisioned) that automatically moves from one machine to the other when the wash cycle is done. I agree, two machines!
