Real life: I'd like a washer/dryer that were somehow connected so that the clothes would automatically move from the washer to the dryer. I hate that sometimes I forget it's in the washer for a couple hours (have a toddler) or need to run out (i never leave the dryer on if I'm not home) and then have to wash everything again bc I forgot to put it in the dryer.
LG has them already...

Wow! But, I'm not sure I'd trust one machine that can do both (well, at least not yet).
In my mind I envision 2 machines that are attached and some sort of sliding door that opens and a mechanism that pushes all the clothes into the dryer and then the door closes.
At least it looks like this might become a reality in my lifetime.
GoldenRod, any luck on finding out whether my fantasy one might come true
ETA: Actually, the reviews on the combo units are pretty good. DH got me a cherry red LG steam washer and dryer 2 yrs ago but maybe my next machine can be something like this.
I thought of this when I was younger! Sort of like an enclosed laundry basket (like a circular enclosure with large holes is what I invisioned) that automatically moves from one machine to the other when the wash cycle is done. I agree, two machines!
Since a front-loading washer, and a dryer both have a very similar horizontal drum, you could theoretically have two connected machines that shared the single drum. You'd load clothes in the drum (it would be nice if it was light enough to be your hamper, and you could buy extra ones), then put the drum in the washer. When it was done washing, it could move it to the dryer machine. When it was done drying, it would slide it again to a cooling rack, where you could pick it up as a hamper again to put the clothes away.

All of the sci-fi future shows and movies I've seen, everyone wears the same outfits, so you won't have to worry about it!

A transporter so that when I want to be somewhere, I don't have to go through the hassle of driving/walking/flying there.
Also one of those machines like on The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that detects and produces what you're craving. That would have come in extra handy when I was pregnant!

A tree that grows real money.
You have to start with a seedling, but they only produce 1s. You have to wait until they mature until you start getting the big bills....

A self-leveling cup holder for vehicles...
So when taking a sharp turn you have no fear of your coffee cup spilling a bit while in your car's cup holder.
If I had time, patience and money - I'd go for it (if it's not already out there).

I don't know if they work, but there are several types out there. Self leveling cup holders
It's definitely a good idea, though!
