what is "Elf on a Shelf?"
Never heard of it before but seeing it's in many of your traditions?

i think u might be able to click on the bottom and use the non flash version
I think basically you hide the elf on the shelf and the kids have to find it the next day or something like that.

The GREATEST thing ever!! We are SO excited here waiting for elfie to make his appearance around TG weekend. DD is 4 1/2 and she has had him for two years now - this will be her third and she LOVES him.
You have to move him around every night after your child is asleep as he is supposed to fly off to the north pole while your child is sleeping to report the daily events to santa so when he comes back in the middle of the night he usually sits somewhere different to the night before.

I got the idea from this website as well and we've been using him for quite a few years now. Maybe 4-5 years? My oldest will be 7 in January and my youngest is 4. We look forward to him every year. Though my Elf's hat won't stay on his head for anything!  Even with crazy glue!  They actually have another Elf like this one that I might like better, but how do you change that?

I did it for the first time last year - Logan was 2.5.
He really liked it.
But "Hattie" only moved if Logan was a good boy the day before.
If he was misbehaving Hattie stayed put!!

don't put him in he bathroom and you should all be safe from the peeping tom 
I don't find it creepy at all, ds found it awesome....it's great to see him every morning searching to find the new spot "Ralphie" took

i first saw this a few years ago, and plan on getting it for my girls even though they are only 6 mos old,
but in a store near my house they sell a dress or skirt to put on it so it can be a girl elf too

my cosuins do it with their kids. as others said, the elf appears on Thanksgiving morning for the first time, in a random place in the house. Every night at bed time, they read the book together and say good night to the elf and their elf (whom they name)magically disappears to the North Pole to report back to Santa. The next morning the kiddies run throughout the house searching for their elf. My cousins put him in some funny places and the kids think it's hysterical. The kids favorite was the morning they found the elf holding the wii controller and they bowling game paused. They told me that their elf created a Wii character and bowled half a game!! It really is such a cute idea!

haha...i don"t think the concept is creepy...I think that darn elf is creepy looking! I had nightmares about it when I was little and we never did the whole having him appear thing. He was just one of my grandma's decorations. Scary! lol.
