Oil based primer and then a semi-gloss latex paint.

Re: What is the best type of paint to use for kitchen cabinets?
I just painted my cabinets. I used steel wool (number 3 i believe.. whichever was the most coarse). to sand them down a little bit and take the sheen layer off.
then I primed them.
then i used high gloss oil paint. it takes a little longer to dry.. but worth it. the high gloss is better to use for cabinets... it's important to be able to wipe them down.
when I went to the hardware store.. i spoke with the guys there and they were soo good at directing me. I also read steps online.
oh and I painted with a little roller (like a cotton one almost). I only used a paintbrush for the crevasses.
let me know if you would like to see pictures of my finished product.

eggshell is the highest gloss you should use if the cabinets are not in PERFECT condition. most older ones are not after you paint them and they dried use a polyacrylic over them. it gives it the final shine and a portective coat so if they get wet or need to be washed, you not actually washing the painted surface
