What is the difference between IUI with Clomid and IUI with injectables?
I am guessing the injectables are more potent? Do they have a higher success rate?

Not everyone responds to the Clomid so they move on to the injectables.
As far as I know they serve the same purpose.

They serve the same basic purpose, but injectibles from what I understand tend to give you more follicles, giving you more chances of getting a mature follicle if you are not responding to Clomid.
We skipped the IUI w/Injectibles and went straight to IVF after the Clomid wasn't working out

I was a "low responder" on Clomid. We tried IUI 3x with it. My 4th IUI was with Follistim & Ovidrel trigger. I had 3 mature follies, where I had only 1 with Clomid.
I am now 6 weeks pregnant, so injectables worked much better for me!

How did you know that you were a low responder to Clomid? What determines that? No follicles or small ones?

I didn't respond at all with Clomid- not even one follie. With injectibles I had like- 4 mature follies. They are just stronger and produce more follies.

Sometimes injectables are given when Clomid isnt getting a response....Depending on what your IF issue is, also depends on whether a Dr. will reccomend injectables...I have mild PCOS and my RE was very weay of injectables on me because of fear of over-responding hence dropping multilple eggs and not being able to control how many could fertilize...After some failed Clomid cycles, we went straight to IVF to eliminate the unpredictability of injectables ( with IVF, the RE is in control of how many embies get put back)

How did you know that you were a low responder to Clomid? What determines that? No follicles or small ones?
My RE said that I was a low responder because I was only getting 1 mature follie on the smaller side each cycle. We increased the dosage each time and even at 150, no improvement.

ALso with Clomid, after a few cycles, it can suppress your estrogen, which adversely effects your uterine linings ability to thicken up.

Injectables make you produce more eggs.. and for someone with unexplained IF (as opposed to MF), they do give you a great success rate.
My RE said...
With Unexplained IF, here’s our options, pregnancy rate, and multiples:
-DO NOTHING: 2%, 1/90
-CLOMID: 5%, 1/10
-CLOMID + IUI: 10-12%, 1/10
-INJECTIONS + IUI: 20-25%, ¼ to 5
-IVF: 50-60%, 1/3 to 4
Injectables are kind of risky business if you have PCOS. I don't have it.. but I do have very high ovarian reserves and still as you know.. overstimulated with injectables (not even on that high of a dosage) so we had to switch over to IVF.

I did Clomid with IUI nd injections with IUI. I produced 1-3 follicles on Clomid and around 6-9 on injections. The injections are supposed to increase your odds because the sperm have more targets. The major problem with injections for me was that I developed OHSS and huge ovarian cysts (eventually these went away). Best of luck!
