What is the most difficult time you had at your job?

I figure since we're having a 2 million post contest, I'd speed things along.

at a job i had years ago, it was MOST difficult dealing with a bigot for a manager

Laying off over 800 people when we moved from LI to NJ.

Some of the people had been there 20+ years and never had another job or resume or anything.

We had "goodbye gatherings" every week in the cafeteria and people would cry.

And of course, EVERYONE blamed HR, even though we were affected too and didn't make the decision.

at my last job I found out they were reading all my emails

I was fired...they said it was because they found out I started my own <related> business...but then I realized how (from my emails!) and remembered all the other sh*t I wrote about the place and how much I hated it!! Mind you, I didn't care I was fired but I said some not so nice things about the place and they knew it. I was mortified and ran out of there!! GOOD RIDDENS!

At my last job, I had a verbally abusive boss.

In my current position, I don't have enough work.

TWICE - I had a guy DIE on my shift! Once as natural death, once as an accident!

At my old job, having parents be so nice to you, then stabbing you in the back and finding out they complained about you...I worked with teen moms. Every day was a little hard, but, I loved my job and the kids. I left because I am now a SAHM

I once had a boss who was bi-polar. That was interesting, as she felt she could manage it without medication.

In college I was a receptionist for a very small family business who did some things I didn't agree with. But they paid well so I looked the other way unitl I graduated and was able to get a better job.

1. the day the Director of HR came and gave me a printout of all my time on LIW It was banned since then.

2. When I was getting ready for maternity leave with my first. I won't get into it, but I felt very pressured.

I had a mentally ill boss. Twice she locked me in my office, and she wouldn't "allow" me to speak to or have lunch with any of my co-workers. She was extremely paranoid.

I worked in one office where all the other secretaries hated me because I was "friends" with the office manager and they blamed me for getting the person I replaced fired.

Then they hated me because we switched to a new word processing program and I learned it quickly and offered my help to everyone else learn it too, which apparently is offensive. So I was labeled a know it all.

The attorney in charge of that office was a MONSTER and would yell at you for talking. Just like in grade school. And then he took the phones off our desks so we couldn't make or receive phone calls.

A month after I left, I got a call from one of the secretaries telling me she never realized how much work I did, because without me there they were really falling behind -- and being subjected to the MONSTER's rage (and subsequently fired).

I affectionately refer to that office as hell.

Having to do a job with absoutley no training. I was a job they thought I could do based on my experience even though it was a different industry. They threw me to the dogs and expected me to learn it by myself with absolutely no training or knowledge even though they said they would teach me.

They let the senior managers attack me, berate me and get me to the point where I was physically and emotionally sick. Then they told me that none of the managers would support me if I stayed on.

Nice right?

My old boss was basically going through a life crisis and breakdown in front of us and dragged us all into it... b/c he was sleeping with his boss (also our boss), another woman within the company, was married, working a second job at night and was an alcoholic. During this phase alot of things were taken out on us as a department because of the affairs and his alcoholism so we were all under alot of stress and verbal and mental abuse. It didn't end pretty.

Being promoted to manager (this included being converted to a FTE rather than a consultant) for one team in my department over other employees who were hired as consultants before me. I was tormented by them for quite a long time. They caused many HR issues and questioned my ability and skills.

Yes I understood that they wanted to be hired FT but I was chosen because I portrayed not only the skill to get the job done but I was also able to manage, multi-task, take-charge, and be proactive. On the team I managed, the youngest person was 8 years OLDER than me. I can go on an on about what happened but all I would say is that it was not fun. I was trash talked for months. This hurt, I was 22 and new to the industry. But it made me stronger and taught me a lot.

Verbally abusive boss who tried to get me to quit - she made my life hell and reduced my self confidence to nothing - it took almost three years to build it back up.

getting screamed at on new years eve by a client on my cell phone (for something that I had no control over) and totally ruining my evening making me cry. etc.

A paralegal who very obviously had it in for me, but before I realized it, I would do her work for her because I felt bad that she could not learn her job. She was all about telling lies, spreading rumors, whatever. I wasn't her first "victim." It got worse whenever I got promotions or assignments that I wanted. She was too stupid to have any real effect on me, but the situation caused a rift between me and the person who had been a mentor to me for many years. She's a miserable person, as she deserves to be.

dealing with immature co-worlers who stop speaking to you b/c they are in a mood.
