Midland - People don't usually think Im from LI or have a NY accent.

This is funny! It worked for me.

I'm "The Inland North".

You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

It's funny b/c people say that to me often...they always ask "but where are you from."

I got Boston, never been there.

Having heard Boston accents- I don't think I really sound like that...And no one has ever said so, either.

this was right on for me!!! it gave me the " philadelphia" accent... and i grew up in south jersey, right outside philly
and its funny what it said about it " if you've ever been to a place where people didn't think that philly had its own accent, people may have thought you talked a little funny, but had trouble figuring out exactly what kind of accent you have."
and tahts sooo funny becase when i moved up to north jersey, all of DHs friends would always make fun of the way i said certain words- LOL

Whenever I speak @ work I get "Where r u from? NY? Your not from here." I guess My LI accent is strong!

I got Inland North.

grew up on LI my whole life, but I did live with my grandfather who grew up in Ohio.

i was a watiress during college, and i got asked all the time where i was from, and people are always shocked when I say LI

Northeast of course, closely followed by philadelphia, which is where some people think I am from when I speak, oddly enough. I think it's because I put an "h" is street
