What side of the car is your convertible car seat on?

We just had our Britax Marathon car seats installed by the Police Department today. The officer who did the inspection and installation said the middle seat is always safest. That's where we had the infant seat bases. The seat fit in the middle of my car, but b/c of the position of the seatbelt, it couldn't go in the middle of DH's car. The car seat is behind the passenger side.

Just curious. What car seat do you have and where is it? If you don't mind sharing, what type of car do you have? TIA.

Passenger in both cars. I have a Jeep Liberty and DH has a Mustang.

And that isn't always true, it isn't always safer in the middle, it depends on the car.

We haven't installed them yet, but they will be on both sides. Obviously, the middle is not an option for us.
We have a VW Jetta.

I have an Explorer and its behind the passenger seat.

While I am pretty tall there is now way I would be able to lift her to the centre all the time to get her in and out.

Ours is in the middle - we had the car seat inspector put it in as well and he said thi was the safest - rather than the latch positions at either end which we were going to use. We have a Volvo XC70.

However, this will only be for a few months b/c as soon as Baby #2 comes we will have to put them on either side - this is what he said is the safest when you have two seats.

ETA: We also have a Toyota Camry and it is in the center there as well.

I was always told the middle was the safest. We had some car seat safety expert on here as a member who said the same.

I thought I had read that on here, but the officer said they always try to install the car seat in the middle seat first b/c that's the safest. Do you know if all car manuals, even for 10+ year old cars, talk about the safest position for a car seat?

Until recently we had covertible in the middle- but now it's on passenger side.. but she will have to move to driver side when the new baby comes, will go behind passenger.

No, he didn't. He said that it depended on the car.

ETA-It wouldn't be safer if the seat didn't fit properly or it wasn't secure. Surrounded by the car wouldn't make a difference then

Re: What side of the car is your convertible car seat on?

Passenger side on both cars.

DH"s Acura TL-when we put it in the middle, DH had trouble looking out the rear view mirror, and he is tall so it went behind the passenger seat.

My Mercury cougar-It's 2 door, with no middle seat. So it is behind the passenger bc I am tall and it would never fit behind my seat. I even have to get in the back seat to put DS in the carseat-so annoying. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: What side of the car is your convertible car seat on?

The middle is only safest if the manufacturer says you can do that. Not all cars can have a seat in the middle.

The next safest is on the passenger side. Statistically, that part of the car is hit less than others, and if you ever are on the side of the road (flat tire, street parking in front of a store or at a home, etc), then DC is on the side away from traffic, and you aren't sitting out in traffic with the door open trying to get them in and out.
