What size bike?

I want to get dd a bike for her birthday. She is turning four but is tall (over 40 inches) and the same size as many of the five year olds in her class. Should I get 16 inch. Will she have trouble riding it or is it a waste of money to get something smaller? Tia

DH works with bikes and rides often. I know you probably don't want to hear this because it's probably a birthday surprise but he highly recommends taking her to the store to sit on them and try them out. Let me know if you have any specific questions about anything bike related and I'll ask him. He loves helping out with bike related things lol.
