What sports are your kids involved in?

If your DC is in k or 1st grade is your DC involved in extracurricular sports? Are they involved in team sports? Do they do sports through out the school year? If so, what sports do you have your DC enrolled in?

ETA: DS had swim class from September - December and now he takes Ice Skating lesions. This past summer he took gymnastics with DD. I think he would like to go back for rock climbing but I am not so sure...
The reason I asked was that some of my friends were telling me what they have their Kindergarten kids enrolled in and it made my head spin with a different sport every day and wanted to know whether my son would join in team sports. If your DC takes team sports which one(s) are they in?

Right now gymnastics and we are going to enroll her in swimming. I think that's more than enough for her. She's 5

Gymnastics, dance and basketball. The classes are Thurs, Fri and Saturday and I feel like it works at the end of the week because it doesn't interfere too much with homework.

Dance and piano.

Only one does dance. My IL's get my kids off the bus, I get home 5-10 minutes later and by that point they are ready to start their homework

The piano teacher comes to our home.

My kids know, if they can't keep up with the homework and do extra curriculars, then we don't do the activities.

He is in K. Right now basketball. Tennis starts up again in Feb and soccer in march. By then basketball is over.
Baseball in spring. Swim in summer with lacrosse camp. Fall is soccer.
He lives for it.
The only sucky part to this is my 2 yr old. She hates being part of this life.
We don't have any kids out after school...so he is outdoors and playing with kids.
In bed by 8:15 everynight. I cook dinner in the day, we ether eat before or after.
Homework is done the second he gets home from school.
He loves learning and rule following...thats why i thik it meshes so well with him. He isn't a hyper or agressive kid at all...but while playing, a fun guy comes out of his normally reserved shell

Re: What sports are your kids involved in?

Wrestling started last week but I totally am not doing it with all of the flu and germs going around. Sweaty, close contact in winter with 6 year olds just didn't appeal to me.

K and 2nd grade:

karate - K
gymnastics = both
soccer - fall and spring - both
lacrosse - 2 - spring
swimming - summer - both
golf - 2 summer

BUT...they are only in 1-2 at a given time. Gymnastics works for us to fill in spots in between the seasons.

Re: What sports are your kids involved in?

DS 6yrs-cub scouts, flag football in fall, religion
DD 5yrs-pioneer girls, gymnastics in fall/winter, religion

I like to have a few days during the week where we can just play at home without having to rush around to get to activities.

Re: What sports are your kids involved in?

DD has Daisy Scouts (1x every other week) and karate (2-3x a week).

I refuse to spend every day driving around like a crazy person. I am already dreading next year when we have to add religious ed to the mix Chat Icon

It sounds like a lot but it works out very well. both take swimming back to back on Tuesdays, Wednesdays-gymnastics, Thursday dance, Sat morning magic, piano is whenever my husband teaches him which is almost everyday when he is home. Basketball practice is after dance and games on Sunday. Basketball is over beginning of march. Magic and sculpture at same time Saturday mornings starting in February. baseball starts in spring...
Also, I am home so I can do it..... Net year will be different when I add in Hebrew school twice a week.!

same here--my son's activities sound like a lot but it all works out and he actually has a good amount of down time. His activities have varied every few months so far but his one constant has been gymnastics.

Re: What sports are your kids involved in?

DS #2 (in K)
Soccer - fall and spring
Basketball - Winter clinic
Basball - spring

All are thru he town Pals/CYO type leages.

He did a trial karate over the summer and liked it but too much to add something to my schedule now. He is asking for track but it is a spring thing here and with soccer and baseball which will be 4X a week - i think it will conflict. Although I think he'd love it.

DS #1 (2nd grade)
Soccer - fall and spring (fall he did 2 teams still deciding on 1 or 2 for spring)
Baseball - spring
Basketball - winter clinic

Also did trial karate over summer but he hated it. He also has religion and cub scouts as non-sport activities.

Re: What sports are your kids involved in?

My kindergartener participates in a winter basketball clinic on Saturdays and that's it for now.

My 2nd grader at that age did a spring soccer clinic only. Now she does the winter b'ball clinic and plays in two competitive sports: girls' basketball team in winter and co-ed soccer in spring and fall.

Also, they both have been dancing since age 3. Currently, DD1 takes 3 classes a week and DD2 takes 2.

ETA...they've also taken 3 sessions of swim lessons, but I think they know how to swim now, so I'm probably going to drop that.

We just have gymnastics, daisies and starting ice skating soon. Gymnastics is 1.5 hours, daisies is an hour like every other week, and skating is 30 minutes. So while it sounds like a lot, it's not really. Plus all of this stuff is within a mile or two of my home.

We were doing a lot of things that were not near home at all, and had big commitments (dance and all star cheer). Fortunately she didn't want to do those again this year, because I was getting tired of all the driving back and forth.

Re: What sports are your kids involved in?

As far as 'organized' sports - Robbie plays Baseball.. he's done little league since he was a sprout. He will do a clinic this year and then play little league in the Spring. He played in K and 1st grade.

Noah played Lacrosse in 1st grade - clinic in winter and games in spring.. but he wanted to stop and does not want to play any other sport on a team - so we don't force him.

They are older but activities that they have done since babyhood:
They both swim during the summer and have since they were babies. They also play basketball, football, kickball and soccer colloquially with their friends. They also mountain bike, trail bike and hike with Rob (and sometimes me!)

What sports are your kids involved in?

DS Kindergarten last year:
Swimming
Soccer
Basketball

He's in 1st now: Soccer
Flag Football
Boyscouts
Starting Baseball this spring

He's a sports fanatic, excels at every sport he plays so I feel like I have to give him all the opportunities to play whatever he wants.

My older DS isn't into alot of the sports so much he played contact football this year and that's it but his schedule is kind of full from boyscouts and religion this year.

Re: What sports are your kids involved in?

My 1st grade DD takes a 1.5 hr dance class - ballet, tap and jazz. she also does a 1 hr baton twirling class.

She recently joined craft club at school but that only goes for 12 weeks.
