Re: What SUV do you drive?
We have a Hyundai Santa Fe (2003) I love it. I get about 18 mpg. but I mostly do highway driving...long commute
The truck has 125,000 miles on it and I've only had to do basic maintenance - no major repairs....knock wood.
I also take it on the beach during the summer and it does great. Big enough for the dog and stuff...and all for $19,800~

Subaru Forrester.
LOVE it
GREAT gas efficiency! Handles so well. Super safe.
It's only a 4 cylindat engine, but that's never bothered me at all. It's been a great car!

2005 Nissan Pathfinder. I find nothing wrong with this truck but I wouldn't buy another truck. I didn't find enough use for one to warrant the gas and the maintenance.

Re: What SUV do you drive?
Well...based on your avatar it seems like you are gonna be +1 soon. If saftey is a concern..Suburu Tribeca is a great car. Its design is very similar to the Murano (what we drive)
Tribeca comes in 5 or 7 passenger (3rd row seats)
I loved both of these suv's but could only pick 1...The Murano is sporty for us.

Re: What SUV do you drive?
I drive a '01 Tribute and love it. I got it for the specific reason that if I have children (and hopefully I'm on my first) i wanted a functional SUV both for me, my family, my child and hubby.
I wanted to be able to reach a baby seat. I wanted to not freak when it pukes on the seats I wanted my child to grow in it so cheez-its embedded in the seat and stains wouldn't freak me out I wanted space for Costco shopping I wanted comfort for me sitting in the back with the kid (soft not sporty) I wanted to be able to save money now I wanted to save money soon (as in pay it off) I wanted it not so fancy to attract theives, but still slick I wanted a workhorse I wanted optional four wheel drive I wanted decent MPH I wanted no less than 4 stars on front, rear, passenger and driver side impacts on the NHTSA
So I shopped for a lightly used, low milage SUV. I looked at Escape, Tribute, Pilot and a few Hyundais and others.
I ended up with my Tribute. I LOVE it. I have had it for three years this last Dec and it's been great in snow, at IKEA and Costco. I get great gas milage too. Its compact enough to park anywhere and that's been huge for me. Oh and it has 4Stars on driver & Passenger impacts and 5stars for front and rear impact.
If after my kid get old enough to stop being a walking puke, crap and mess maker, I'll upgrade. For now, even tho I have no kid, I really am proud of my decision.
HTH

Re: What SUV do you drive?
Ford Expedition.
I love it. We've had it for 8 years now and really have no complaints. My husband and I have always had heavy duty trucks and full/mid sized SUVs (DH is a contractor so it's a necessity) and really wouldn't consider driving anything else at the moment.
I like the fact that we have room for everything we need when going on vacation or even grocery shopping; not to mention there's still room for additional passengers comfortably.
In inclement weather, I feel safer. We live in a very hilly area and having four-wheel drive is a big help with getting up those hills, especially in the snow.
Additonally, the view is great. Being higher up, I feel I'm at a better vantage point for seeing what's going on in front of me.
Lastly, towing capacity. Again this is important to us as my husband is a contractor and if anything happens to his box truck (GOD forbid!!!) he needs something that can handle heavy loads.
I suppose the con is gas mileage. But it comes with territory of driving an 8 cylinder vehicle, so I really don't complain about it. We feel we made a conscious choice to drive what we drive so we feel we don't have a right to complain about it. However, I do love the idea that Chevy has come out with fuel alternative (I.e. Hybrids and E85 Ethanol fuel) large SUVs. I think it's a great step forward in moving toward a greener future for SUVs and trucks.

Re: What SUV do you drive?
2004 Xterra.
Pros: I got a great deal on it. It drives nice, but it drives like a truck. GREAT in the snow. DH and I are avi skiers, and its awesome to take sking and you can offroad in it.
Cons: gas was $1.75 when I bought it. I will never drive an SUV that large again. my commute increased from 15 miles round trip to 50 miles round trip also I would trade it in but its already paid off.
I would recommend it, but realize that it will cost you $50 to fill up and the MPG is not great. Get a Hybrid!!

i just got a mercury mariner 2 months ago and i really like it, i don't know how big of a truck you want though cause this one is a small model, even dh likes it and he is used to big trucks
dh has a lincoln navigator now, and there is always something wrong with it he used to have a ford expedition, big truck, but we liked it a lot of course they are all gas guzzlers

Re: What SUV do you drive?
When I was looking for an SUV the Santa Fe wa my number 1 pick. It has most of the best features standard. It also is attractive and moderately priced. Best of all it has one of the absolute highest safety ratings in the industry.
But an SUV was not in the cards for me!
GOOD LUCK!

Re: What SUV do you drive?
I have a 2000 Honda CRV and I still love it. I have about 103,000 miles on it and I haven't had to fix anything major just yet. Just routine maintenance. It has a lot of space and gets good mileage.

Re: What SUV do you drive?
2007 Ford Explorer, Eddie Bauer Edition
I LOVE my truck. It has a nice look (stone metallic with tan accents, tan leather interior), it handles the road well, it's very roomy, and it's pretty powerful with the 8 cylinder engine.
Cons? 75.00 a week to fill the tank.

Re: What SUV do you drive?
ML 350
great truck, lots of great safety features
gets decent gas mileage for a SUV- about 22 mpg
the average since I got the car- and what I get on the highway
the only reason I wouldn't get another one is the price- I no longer drive to work- so I don't need to lease a new truck every 3 years
I plan on buying a pre-owned one or a pre-owned Lexus 330 - b/c it about $10K cheaper - but alot can change in 20 months when my lease is up- but for now that's my plan
