moms of 2 or more - what type of car/SUV do you drive?
With baby #2 arriving anyday now, DH and I need to buy a new car this summer. We were looking into a few crossovers (GMC Acadia, Acura MDX) because we thought we needed a third row seat since the second row would be occupied by both carseats. But maybe both carseats can fit next to each other with room for a 3rd person as well?
We want to have room to be able to drive with a 3rd passenger if needed and also have a lot of cargo room when the 3rd row isn't being used.
What do you moms drive with 2 kids or more? Are you happy with it? Anything else we should look out for?

Suburban. I have 3 kids, they are older. We sit 8 comfortably. I like the suburban because it has a full trunk and if i was ever hit from behind the kids sitting in the back seat wouldn't be crushed. Eats alot of gas though.

I love the look of the MDX but they do look like they're on the small side. On the other hand I wouldn't want a huge SUV.
I'm not a minivan person either although my good friend LOVES her new Odyssey.

I wouldn't say the MDX is small. It does have enough room in the back for 3 car seats and also has the 3rd row seat. Its a great/reliable car!! I will miss it but with 3 kids and family 5+hrs away we need a Suburban/Yukon sized car.

We have a Honda CR-V right now. Hopefully this time next year, we'll probably get a car with a 3rd row in case we decide to have more kids.

My vote is for the GMC Acadia... I know where you can go to get one too But in all seriousness, I just had one the other day and I love it. I have the Envoy now, the Acadia will more than likely be the next one once this dealer lease goes back.

do any regular cars fit 3 carseats in the back? I have a Matrix now...there is no way a 3rd carseat would ever fit.

Not a 2 or more mom but I drive a Trailblazer EXT (it has the 3rd row). It has a nice amount of room and right now the 3rd row is down most of the time but when we need to we put it up.

I had the sister car a few years ago (Pontiac Vibe) and I was able to fit 3 in the back - an infant car seat facing back, a Marathon facing forward, and a booster seat! It was so cramped, but we managed when my girlfriend was in town and we took the kids somewhere.
I am sure a full-sized sedan would fit 3 seats. Karen mentioned above she has 3 in her MDX. I have 2 Marathons in my Envoy and the middle is tight - you need to be real skinny to ride back there

thanks! i forgot about the booster. I don't trust myself at the dealership...I want my matrix to last me. DH suggested a used grand marquis.

I have the Saturn Vue and have both seats in with enough room for a third person. 25-30MPG.
We will most likely be "upgrading" to the Saturn Outlook hopefully soon enough. It has 8 passanger and is new on the market. Still pretty good gas mileage for the size. around 24MPG.

I also have a Saturn VUE. We had 2 carseats in it at one point and now it's 2 booster seats. We can fit a 3rd booster seat but it's a PITA to strap them in. Love love love my car though!!

I love love love the Acadia -- we're getting one when our lease is up and #2 arrives. What I like the best is that the 2nd row are captain seats, so with 2 carseats you still have full access to the 3rd row.

that's a huge point for us too. We test drove one and it drives really nicely too - not like a truck, like a car. They are really popular and are selling like crazy I hear.
Trish, would your DH agree?!

We have an Acura MDX with 2 carseats in the back seat. We can fit a small person (which is usually my mom) between the seats. The third row comes in handy often.
On a recent trip to New Jersey we had my dad and me in the front, Alec and my niece in carseats in the back with my mom between them, and Nicolas and my sister in the third row. It was roomy enough and no one felt squished. Watching us get out was like unloading the clown car!
