What time did YOU used to go trick or treating?
I was talking to my friend last night and we were remembering trick or treating.
Everyone in our neighborhood didnt even go out until it got dark. We would wait until night and then the streets were filled. Nowadays though, it seems kids go as soon as they are out of school and by dusk, its all over (in my neighborhood anyway).
What time did you usually go trick or treating when you were younger?

We used to go twice. Once after school and then again after dinner once more people were home. My dad would get home from work around 3 so he would take us after school (mom too until she went back to work full time when i was like 7) and then they would both take us after dinner.

Where I grew up they had set times. Usually like 6-9 or something like that. When I moved to NY I was shocked that I had people knocking on my door at 1pm! We will probably go out around 5 since people don't get home from work much earlier than that.

I remember going after school like at 4PM and I did the same for my lil sis when i took her. We would stay out until like 7PM no later.

I think we went around 6 then came back home when we were done which was probably anywhere between 8 and 9.

My SIL always tells me about that! She grew up in Ohio. She would TorT in her neighborhood for her set time then her mom would drive her over to the next neighborhood for their set time!
As for us, we would go the minute we got out of school, starting on the way home.
Then go home do homework, eat dinner and go out with my parents until around 8PM

I grew up in CA and we were not allowed out UNTIL dark! Nobody went out until dark.. so much more fun.
Why would you want to go in daylight? What was the last well-lit haunted house you went to?? It's supposed to be dark!

In Ohio we had "Beggar's Night". That's the night before Halloween. The times were set, usually between 4-6p.m. Nobody went trick or treating on Halloween.

usually around 430 or so and we were done by dinner time. Older kids would come to our house in the evening but we were never allowed to go out after dinner.

Us too!
In the 80s, inthe days of x-raying candy, our school tried to prevent trick or treating by having a Halloween party after school, but it wasn't until 4, and myschool got out at 2:30 & the other 2 a little later. So we'd go home, change, go trick or treating & then go to the party.
I only went trick or treating untill I was 11, and I was really allowed out in the dark younger than that. There were a
lot of SAHM in that area at that itme, so there were people home. Most kids went at the same time--older kids & kids from other neighborhoods would come at night.
Now, I like it when they come later, so I'm home to see them!

We went out after dinner so more people would be home. TorTing before dinner was for the little, little kids
It is so strange now, especially with the time change being AFTER halloween now, I couldn't imagine TorT'ing in the daylight - it doesn't seem like much fun!.

I actually think it is the opposite. We went out right after school and many kids can't go out until night because of both parents working.

I want to say that we started getting ready around dusk and then went out once it got dark. Halloween was great in the neighborhood I grew up in.

I always used to go right after school...there were no set times in Bklyn...it's so different for the kids here in PA...they always go on the Friday before Halloween...this year, Halloween is on Friday...so, they'll go on the day...but, it's weird when they're trick or treating almost a week before the day and then on Halloween...nothing...

I remember coming home from school, then putting on my costume & heading out probably around 4:30 and staying out for a few hours. I was always done by 7 or 8.

I think I had the most negligent parents EVER! I would get home from school, get in costume and zip out the door IMMEDIATELY. I'd take a pillowcase (King Size) and wander the neighborhood until my feet were just too sore to walk anymore. And on the way back I'd hit up the good houses again.
I do remember that as it got later we had to watch out for 'bag snatchers' - bigger kids who would snatch the pillowcases full of candy. And at some point we'd also stop for cream and egg fights at the school up the block.
It's reallllly different now.

My aunt lives in PA and they have to look in the paper to see the trick or treat time for thier neighborhood. My whole question is that if the whole neighborhood is out trick or treating at the same exact time... who is giving out the candy??
