What time do you think it becomes TOO late to Trick or Treat on Halloween?

OK I have 2 small children that go to bed by 830 pm. I shut all the lights off outside and all but one inside (and my house isn't right on the road - so kids would have to walk up a long dark driveway) - I should have put a sign on the door, but I didn't think that my bell would ring at 10pm!

Am I THAT old or is that just too late? I didn't even have anymore candy - so I ignored itChat Icon and thank goodness my kids rolled over and went back to sleep.

So for next year - what time do you think is too late to ring someone's bell on Halloween?

On a school night, let alone Sunday night, I would say by 9pm it should be finished.

We had our last TOT'ers at 840pm last night.

10 o'clock is way too late. I would say 9pm should be the max.

On a Sunday, 10 PM is definitely too late. I heard kids on my block at 9:30 and hoped they wouldn't ring the bell. They didn't.

We did not answer after 9pm. We were just really tired from being out all night the night before and were too lazy Chat Icon

8pm.

I agree. Nothing wakes my ds up. Nothing, but the door bell. I left a note on the door saying please don't ring the bell and left the candy outside. Befor I went to bed (9pm: Chat Icon) I checked and all the candy was in it. So they were done in the neighborhood.

I'd say 10 latest.

Although, I grew up in California and we weren't allowed out to start until it was dark out. Even on school nights.. it was torture waiting for dark after school so we could go out!

I would think as soon as it's dark out... I agree with PP that said 8pm.

I think past 9.

I put a bowl of candy on the front steps at 7:30 because I was getting DD ready for bed and didnt want them ringing the bell.

Ofcourse, the little craps that came by at 8ish, I heard them giggle say "they left the entire bowl out here". Then I heard the bowl cling & they took off with all my candy.

8 PM. I might keep answering the door until 9, but thankfully no one came past 8 PM anyway.

I think anything after 8 is just too late.

9, but I got my last TOT'ers at 8:30. A 7 and a 4 year old with their father.

My honest first thought was, shouldn't they be in bed?
