Re: What type of seat is your 4 year old using in the car?
My niece is 6 and is still in a britax marathon. She was in one @ 4.
I will still have my 4 year old in a carseat if they fit etc...

DS just turned 5 but we have the Britax Regent.....The seat is UGE but its got a 5 point harness which I really wanted and it goes up to 80lbs
This is what what my 2 and 6 year olds were in until we had a car accident a few weeks ago. They aren't making it anymore, so we bought 2 new Britax Frontiers. Five point harness up to 80 lbs and them a high back booster up to 100lbs.
I saw a video on here a few years ago about a little boy who died in a car accident in in a regular booster- his parents felt that if he were in a 5 point harness he would have survived. Ever since watching that video, I am a car seat freak.
I bought them at Buy Buy Baby for $269 with a 20% Bed Bath and Beyond coupon. Very easy to install. I highly recommend it.

Re: What type of seat is your 4 year old using in the car?
DS is primarily in his Recaro seat, I believe it goes up to 65lbs. But he prefers to use the booster seat that we purchased for trips and to use in grandparent cars.

My nephew is 4 and he is in the Graco Nautlius my SIL said it's a 3 in 1 so they don't need to buy other carseats for him.
Same here. Terrific seat! You will not have to buy another seat. Goes from a 5 point(which DD will stay in for awhile) to a highback booster and then to a lap booster. It has top safety ratings too.
Double check the expiration date on the seat. It's great that it lasts through several changes, but that might mean it will be useful beyond its expiration date. They need some sort of seat until at least age 8, which is longer than any car seat expiration date I've heard of.

I only bought it for DD at 3.5 so I'm sure it will last. DS is in a Britax Boulevard that will be changed into a Nautilus eventually as well. I will check the expiration though....

Re: What type of seat is your 4 year old using in the car?
Graco Backless Booster. He's more than big enough for it and it's got a VERY high safety rating. We were told that it's safer to use the actual car seatbelt than a car seat. Not sure how true that is, but it does make sense.

Re: What type of seat is your 4 year old using in the car?
DD will be 4 tomorrow and I still have her in a Britax Roundabout. She really wanted a booster seat though so I compromised and got the Graco Nautilus. Although I really only did that now because DD #2 is turning 8 months and will be out of the Graco carrier soon.... I wouldn't feel comfy yet about putting her in a booster without a 5 point harness.
