Re: What Was on Your "MUST HAVE" List For Your House

We thought we might have to expand based on the houses we looked at in our neighborhood to get the things we needed but the things on our list that we got were
2+baths
4+bedrooms
decent sized yard
lakefront or lakeview
basement
quiet street

things we wanted but didn't get(but plan to add in the future)
central air
outside entrance to basement
garage

as far as specific cosmetic features we knew we would gut & redo anything we bought so those things werent on our list. I think most people get most of what they "must have" but not everything.

Re: What Was on Your "MUST HAVE" List For Your House

We need at least 2 bathrooms or a bath and a half, three bedrooms and nice sized kitchen and tv/living room area. Oh yeah, I need a big enough room to put my baby grand piano in. I'm finally going have it...my parents have been keeping in at their house.

Re: What Was on Your "MUST HAVE" List For Your House

Our must list
location - close to DHs job and within 1 hour to Manhattan
community feel
snow plow removal/gardening done for us
2 bedrooms
at least 2 bathrooms (we have 2 1/2 and our master bath is a a suite with jaccusi tub and seperate shower)
laundry room upstairs
EIK
spacious feeling
enough room in dining room or place to extend if necessary
good lighting
central air

we got all of that and it is a colonial so I am really happy.
eta - we also got a livingroom, storage shed, and a huge master bedroom and a fireplace
and out of our front door a fantastic view of the mountains. (At our exit on the highway there is a rest stop for "scenic view" it is such a nice bonus to have it right out of our front door - not the rest stop that is, that is 1/2 mile away)

Re: What Was on Your "MUST HAVE" List For Your House

This is mine...keep in mind this is for GA.

General:

Price range: $125-250K
Less than 10 minutes from main highway
Close to supermarkets & "civilization"
Small subdivision (no more than 50 houses) & no new phases being built
House not on a main road; far from busy streets
45min to 1 hour max to Atlanta's "heart"
Good schools (for my imaginary kids! LOL)

Physical:

Lot size: 1/2 acre or more
Not on corner
Level lot (absolutely no slopes)
4 bedrooms min.
3 bathrooms min.
Fireplace
Jetted tub - Master Bath
Separate Shower - Master Bath
Toilet with door - Master Bath
His & Hers vanity - Master Bath
Laundry Room downstairs
Bonus Room or In-Law suite
2 car garage with separate doors & automatic
Deck
9' ceilings or higher
Bay window
2 floors min.
Separate dining room
Community with ammenities (pool, tennis, playground)
Large kitchen with breakfast area

I know the list is long...but we pretty much are right on target. I'll give up the pool in the community and the bay window...but not the lot size or flatness. There are TONS of houses that fit all we want and in the price range, so we're excited about the move!

ETA: I just wanted to update this post and once again thank God for blessing us because we are in contract for our dream home and almost every thing on the list was met!! Thank God! Chat Icon

Re: What Was on Your "MUST HAVE" List For Your House

Must Have:

3 br
2 ba
side driveway (Very hard to come by in Chicago. There's an alley separating your yard and the neighbor's yard behind you. Most houses have the garage entrances facing the alley)
Minimal renovations needed

We got everything including a finished room in the basement and an oversized lot. Best of all our house was a complete rehab (interior), so everything down to the door knobs were new.
