What would be the purpose of taking down a bird's nest?

I've been really upset about this all day. Outside our living room window, there is a bird's nest with a few eggs in it, and we're always so excited that they return every year. Yesterday as DH was bbqing, he noticed our landlord doing some light landscaping. Well, he went right into the small tree and shooed the bird out of the nest until she flew away. DH said she flew just a few feet away and chirped nonstop as the landlord proceeded to take down the nest!!! What would be the purpose of taking that nest down? Anyway, the landlord proceeded to tell DH how perfect the nest was made and that there were 3 eggs in there!!! DH asked why he took it down and he said he was just going to move it and took it away. Now I'm no bird expert, but I thought once the nest has been touched, the bird won't go back to it. Needless to say, when I left for work today, I looked around, but the bird was gone. Chat Icon

Re: What would be the purpose of taking down a bird's nest?

that's awful!!

we have a bird's nest in the tree right next to the window of our den and the bird keeps pecking on our window and trying to fly in (we have some sort of coating, so you can't see outside IN, and from the outside the window is kind of a mirror so we think the bird sees itself and thinks its another bird, and then on the other side, thinks there is more tree and tries to fly to another branch. it's hysterical.)

but anyway, even with the wacky bird pecking non stop at itself in the window pane or flying INTO it, we would NEVER touch the nest. Chat Icon

I hope it's not true, and the mother goes back to her eggs. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I hope she finds her eggs soon! But bird droppings are really harmful to breathe in once they are dry.

Sorry, I thought it was actually in your window.

Chat Icon This post just made me SO sad! I hope that it's not true about the nest being touched and the bird goes back. I don't get why anyone would move it, that's just cruel! Chat Icon

We have on top of the downward curve for the gutter. We won't take it down until after the babies are gone. It's not hurting the house or us.

Hit post too soon..

I think your landlord is a jerk. There is no reason to take the nest down in a tree. Poor mama and babies....

Oh, that is mean. Did he dismantle it, or move it? I hope the mama bird finds it ok.

I hope the bird pecks his eyes out, no reason for that man to take a nest out of a tree that isn't harming anyone.Chat Icon
