What would you do? - Baptism related

I have a dilemma....I am in the middle of buying a Baptism Gown for my DD and don't know what to do....

I keep going back to this dress that I LOVE and I just want to get it but the price is stopping me. It is expensive and a lot of money for only few hours but then I think that DD is my first born and deserves it....

What would you do? would you just get it despite the price or look for something cheaper?

TIA!

DS's godmother bought his baptism outfit, but I stil didn't want it to be super expensive. I tried to cap it at $100, but for a girl's gown, I'm sure my budget would go up Chat Icon

Can you find something similar cheaper? Would you christen any future daughter in this gown (good way to justify it Chat Icon )?

If you really love it and have looked elsewhere and don't find something else you love, I'd get it (assuming you can afford it, obviously). Hopefully you'd use it for future daughters...and maybe your girl/s could use it for their daughters, etc.

Knowing me, if I shopped around a lot looking for something cheaper, I'd find another dress I loved for MORE money than the original Chat Icon

Do you have a picture of it? The gown I originally wanted to get DD was over 200 dollars. I ended up buying her a 50 dollar gown that was so perfect. She wore it for about three hours total. I know the dilemma though. I think no matter what she wears, she will be beautiful!

Re: What would you do? - Baptism related

i think it would really depend on how much it was and your own financial situation. is it going to be a huge hardship or just a nice splurge.

i would probably get it because baptism gowns are special. many families reuse it (i.e. your next baby could wear it too) and it is passed down. my baby will be wearing the gown that was worn by her great-great grandfather, her great grandfather, her grandmother and all her grand aunts and uncles on my mom's side. why not start a family tradition like that with this gown? it can be passed down and that might make you feel less guilty about the purchase if you really love it.

good luck! Chat Icon

i agreed to pay half with DD godparents so that I could get the dress I wanted the whole thing dress, bonnet, bib, shoes headband and blanket cost $300 we split the bill (IDK about you but in orthodox religion the godparents give the gown as a gift to the baby) I do not regret getting the one I wanted

My darling...

Your gorgeous wedding dress.
That beautiful Reem Acra gown....

Think back & remember how you felt & looked in your wedding gown & how much it was worth every penny you spent even though you only wore it for a few hours.

Base your decision on that!

Thank you ladies for your replies!!!

You are all right and I think you made my decision a little bit easier.....Baptism only happens once (just like a wedding) and I feel that DD should look special...and if DD has a daughter one day I would love for her daughter to wear the same gown...so maybe the money will be well spent..

Janie, you are right!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I loved my dress and now have it preserved, so maybe my DD can wear it one day...would love thatChat Icon Chat Icon

It's gorgeous - but I'd have to be stinkin rich to spend $500 on a dress for a baby.
