What would you do? Flood insurance?
I would add it - it comes out to $50 a month and gives you peace of mind.

Re: What would you do? Flood insurance?
I'd go for it, just to have peace of mind. Not just for Irma, but in general. Can you afford a flood if you didn't have insurance ?

Well I just called to add it, and in 24 hours the agents are no longer able to sell. They lost binding authority, I guess because of the storm. Guess we will just leave this one up to God. I will be adding the insurance as soon as Irma is gone though. Thanks!

Re: What would you do? Flood insurance?
I would do it and I would do it quickly.
IIRC, insurance companies won't allow new policies or policy changes to be written for areas under a state of emergency so if there's a chance you may be there's no time to waste.
ETA - that's what I was trying to warn you about! Well fingers crossed that you're worried for nothing. If you're not in a flood zone you may end up fine! Stay safe!!

I would add it. My parents live in FL and not in a flood zone at all but added it because it was cheap and that way they were covered. They were inches away from having to use it recently. The water stopped about an inch or so from their sliders.

What would you do? Flood insurance?
I would add it before it's too late it's not that much money. If I was extremely strapped I would use a credit card because to be honest you can pay off $600 relatively quick, if you lose everything that's going to be a million times worse

I don't think insurance companies even cover damage if you buy a policy after the storm is already named. Wouldn't everyone hurry up and buy a policy then?

Re: What would you do? Flood insurance?
I would absolutely get flood insurance for the future. I know someone in MB that lives a few miles inland that got flooded from a tropical storm a year or two ago. We weren't in a flood zone prior to Sandy(and flooded) so I wouldn't relay on that. Please be safe

I don't do PERSONAL insurance but I'm currently being flooded (pun intended) with requests for flood coverage. Thing is there's a STANDARD 30 day waiting period. So be aware it may apply to you to. But yeah, but some insurance.
The waiting period discourages people from waiting until a storm approaches to buy insurance.
ETA: just re-read (new home) ah I see :)
